Question about the little flap over Obama's Nancy Reagan "toe-stub" the other day.
I'm sure this has been hashed over a little on this board already so please forgive me for missing it, but of course some of the right wingers out there in cyberland are already making a stink about Obama's seance comment regarding Nancy Reagan. Are others hearing about it? Of course the MSM has looped it around the airwaves. I'll admit that when I heard it I thought he did indeed "stub his toe" with that. Afterward he probably wanted to bite his own tongue. Of course it was just an attempt at a little joke, but it didn't work. I sort of thought the "mutt" comment was a little goofy too, although Obama can be VERY humorous with a script as he was at the roast dinner the night after the last debate. I'm glad he called Mrs. Reagan to beg her pardon. That was the right gesture. Ah well, they all do it. We all do it. No biggy.

1. I barely saw it mentioned on tv
but reporters that I saw seemed to think it was cute.

7. WTF are you talking about ?? I guess not so many problems as to donate, call, and canvass one hell
of a lot for Obama/Biden. (How much shoe leather did you burn up this cycle?) I was just asking the question. I don't think it's a big deal. Now if you're referring to some of my previous posts about the need for this party to get tougher in general in our election cycles, you're damn straight. Electoral politics is tough business as it well should be, and Dems need to be tough. I am very pleased with the election results and was never that worred that it wouldn't happen, but I remain of the opinion that there were times when Obama/Biden could have been more forceful. Nonetheless, I also repeatedly said that this campaign was tougher than several our more recent prez tickets, and I also acknowledged the excellent ground game of which I was a part. Happy now?

4. It was stated on the news that Mrs. Reagan and our President-Elect
had a warm and friendly chat. Hardly worth the keyboard action.

5. The fact that the "joke" gave him an excuse to call Nancy Reagan.....
and have a long conversation with her, as was reported by various Newsources...which actually may have been quite productive at impressing the RW Reagan nuts.

Perhaps it wasn't such an accident....what he said.
Perhaps he's been talking to Ron Reagan Jr.

Mmmmmmmm

Some might actually call it brilliant!

6. I loved the 'mutt' remark.
Obama has a great sense of humor--and it ranges from the very sophisticated to the downright goofy, which I find very endearing. He was responding to the reporter who asked if he had consulted with 'living Presidents'. He repeated her question in his answer, realized it sounded silly, and then I think, nervously rambled on with the Nancy Reagan remark. It really was no big deal, and I certainly hope this will not prevent him from being very open and off-the-cuff with his humor and remarks in the future. It was good of him to apologize to Nancy Reagan. She likes the guy, and he meant no disrespect. That's the thing--Obama may make a gaffe, but it isn't meant to be mean, but unfortunately, there are too many people with their undies in a bunch who want to jump on anything they can in order to stir up the faux outrage.

8. I agree with you almost entirely. But then again, while "mutt" was goofy, it also showed he could
laugh at himself a little, and that's always a good thing. Gotta just say though, I understand he was going off the cuff in response to the "living Presidents" question and I immediately got the reference, but it was just a lame attempt at a joke, as he well knew. Of course he meant no disprespect. Just a weak stab at a joke. No big deal.
