Say NO to Eric Holder as Obama's USAG. |
|
This creep defended the Chiquita corporation against charges it funneled money to anti-labor, Colombian death squads. Holder was able to get the executives out of jail time. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dan-kovalik/lawyer-for-chiquita-in-co_b_141919.htmlNO DRAMA OBAMA--SAY NO TO THIS GUY!!

1. There couldn't be a worse appointment! Might as well appoint Alberto Gonzales! |
|
Really, if he does this, then that's it. We will know that the corpo/fascists are fully running Obama, and all our work for our country and our democracy, in supporting his campaign, has been for nought.
Kaput, fini. Like Bush using the worldwide outpouring of support for the U.S. after 9/11 to slaughter a million people in Iraq for their oil, and to nazify and loot our country, are the corpo/fascists who now have us in a death grip using the euphoria of the election of black man as president to finally ring our necks and leave our great progressive country for dead?
That's what I think of this appointment. If it's true, then it's all over between me and Obama. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on the appointment of Rahm Emmanuel (a DLCer who hates the grass roots, and worked hard to get pro-war Dems nominated in primaries) as Obama's chief of staff. I even said it may turn out to be a brilliant appointment (keeping Emmanuel close to hand, and on tight leash serving Obama's legislative agenda). It looks bad, like a body blow to the people. But is it? Maybe it's foxy as hell.
No more! No benefit of the doubt on this one! This is DISGUSTING. It is absolutely without redeeming features.

to go through the vetting process. think I got it from Huffington - no link.

I think you're thinking of Comey, who is also under consideration.

6. Holder Cannot be the Attorney General: Must GO Viral! |
|
Supporting the corporations that use death squads for political and economic gain is the most immoral, and anti-democratic of sins! Not, to mention it perpetuate the Bush degradation of the view of the citizens of orher countries of the United States. Haven't we had enough of that under Bush. Even more, we cannot have an Attorney General who has defended such corporations and then expect that somehow such a person could agrue against use of torture? There could be no worse situation for the newly elected democratic President Obama and the United States.
There must be an all out effort to stop any consideration of Eric Holder as the next United Stated Attorney General.
A better alternative would be Janet Napolitano, Governor of Arizona and former US Attorney. She has done a great job managing the government of Arizona and would be a great Attorney General under President Obama. (I have no connection to her or Ariz.)

will give up their efforts to influence him, as well?
Sorry, but petitioning one's elected officials is called "democracy", not "dictating".

9. What is with all this speculation about AG? |
|
Methinks it's time for Democrats to just calm it down a few notches and just let the process happen with respect to cabinet posts.

10. I will wait until I hear Obama say it... |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-08-08 10:08 PM by TwoSparkles
...but I will say this.
We can look away at Emanuel's pro-Iraq war stance, and also at some of his DLC tendencies.
However, one cannot look away at the policy decisions and stances that an AG has taken. An AG is--as an AG does. There's no rationalizing or explaining away that pick--nor the person's decisions or their philosophies.
We will be able to glean tremendous insight--into Obama's intentions, commitment to the Constitution and his sense of justice---from who he selects as AG.
In my mind, the AG is probably the most important pick Obama will make--given the shenanigans that went on during the past eight years. We need someone who will uphold the Constitution, and someone who is ethically impeccable and committed to the justice and decency that the Founders had in mind. No frickin wiggle room on this one.

14. When picking an attorney, only the quality of their work matters. |
|
Lawyers should always be judged solely by their professionalism and skill, and never by their former clients. If an attorney is one of the best in his field, I definitely want him on my team.
Holder has an exemplary record of prosecuting corruption by public officials. During his time with the Justice Department's public integrity section, he was the one who finally indicted Dan Rostenkowski, as well as many other powerful officials, including fellow members of law enforcement. We need someone with Holder's chops to go after the crimes of the Bush Administration.
My personal choice for AG would be Fitzgerald, but Holder's track record as a U.S. Attorney and Justice Department investigator and prosecutor puts him right up there, too.
