Obama Picture Defaced At Police Station

MILWAUKEE - A big investigation at the Milwaukee Police Department. It appears someone drew a bullet on a picture of president-elect Barack Obama.

A source tells TODAY'S TMJ4 the picture was discovered at the District 5 station during roll call. Police officers apparently pulled Wednesday's Journal Sentinel out of the garbage can. On the front page -- a picture of Barack Obama...with a bullet drawn near the president-elect's head.

An internal investigation is now underway. Police also notified the U.S. Secret Service. However, there is no information this was actual a threat on Obama's life.

Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn released a statement stating, "This is no laughing matter. The perpetrators of this act have humiliated their police department."

Flynn went on to ask the public not to judge the entire department by the acts of a few.

Common Council President Willie Hines echoed that concern. "I think it really speaks poorly and badly of the coward that did the act."

Milwaukee Police Association President also condemned the picture. "This appears to be some sick person's way of expressing a personal opinion about the recent presidential election," said John Balcerzak. "There's no place on this department for that kind of behavior."

4. If this was a cop, he/she needs to be fired.
Policeman are part of the security detail when a President comes to visit. This is unacceptable.

5. This is infuriating, but not unexpected from police officers.
I know many police officers, and very few of them are stable or enlightened enough that I would consider them NOT capable of such acts. Sadly, many that become officers do so fo all the wrong reasons.

7. there is going to be a time when people are emboldened...
to try espousing these "thoughts" they have, fantasies if you will. The incidents will taper off when a few of them start getting prosecuted, like when the law is enforced....I realize this is going to be a new concept for those on the dark side of america, but yes, laws are meant to be ENFORCED. That means you get ARRESTED, BOOKED, and then you go to TRIAL. This is a bad thing if it happens to you. Maybe the media could remind them a bit before they ruin their records.

What Constitutes a "Threat?"

According to this law -- 18 USC Sec. 871 -- which reads, in part:

"...Whoever knowingly and willfully deposits for conveyance in the mail or for a delivery from any post office or by any letter carrier any letter, paper, writing, print, missive, or document containing any threat to take the life of, to kidnap, or to inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States, the President-elect, the Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President of the United States, or the Vice President-elect, or knowingly and willfully otherwise makes any such threat against the President, President-elect, Vice President or other officer next in the order of succession to the office of President, or Vice President-elect, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than five years, or both."

education is a bitch ain't it!!
