Can U stand along Inaugural parade route without tickets??

Anyone know? I've read that you should contact your Congressmen or Senators for Inaugural tickets, so I'm guessing it will all be 'political' about WHO gets those tickets. Anyone have any suggestions?

1. Short answer yes.

Those tickets are for "events" such as prime seating at inauguration.

5. So parade route or national mall? Which would be better?

We already have train tickets and hotel room...But I just want to make the best plans possible for viewing.

and that's open to the public too.

4. advice please

i would like to see the inauguration but dont really have the connections to get tickets to prime seating... do they have gigantic screens on the mall for people to watch it?

I live in Maryland so I can metro in to the mall area but have never been interested ingoing downtown for the inauguration before so any advice about where to go, what to expect, etc is greatly appreciated

8. yes they had big screen TV and I wasn't there early enough

to get close so we watched on the screen.

10. I was there in 2001

protesting the selection, not election of the criminal George Bush.

We took over the town, took over most of the parade route. It was a cold bitter day. As it wore on, people even left the stands and we took over.

Anyway, you could certainly just walk up to the parade route, even if you didn't have a ticket -- despite the super, duper high security,

They are with Obama now, as they were with Bush during the 2000 campaign, during the Fla debacle, after Bush was selected, and after the events of 9/11. 12. I was there in 2005 to protest the Coronation

They had Constitution Avenue barricaded off from everywhere but a few access points, and they were searching everyone going through. Snipers on the roofs too. I would expect it to be about the same.

11. I'm gonna try

I can take the metro in and walk as far as I have to but I won't be able to pay for tickets, however that's done I mean.

I went to Bush's last parade (just so I could flip him off in person!) and I was able to stand on the sidewalk and see his car go by (as I raised the finger) without paying anything.

14. Yes. Tickets are only needed for seats in the reviewing stands I believe.

I suspect most Congress critters will use a combination of political patronage and first come first served or perhaps a lottery system.
