4. the "office of the president-elect" was established by congress in 1963
Edited on Sun Nov-09-08 05:06 PM by onenote
That's right. Forty-five years ago. Before most of the jackasses complaining about it were ever born.

And yes, I know the Presidential Transition Act doesn't refer specifically to the "office" of the President-Elect.

But it has been referred to as such for years. For example, here's an announcment from 1989 regarding the nomination of Kate Leader Moore to be Assistant Secy of Transportation. Her past positions, as described by the Bush I administration, included:" deputy director for planning in the office of policy development for the office of the President-elect, 1989"

7. But I remember JFK being called the "president elect" in 1960.
It's a long time ago but because of the circumstances, I remember it very well. It was the first election I could vote in. I was excited and alive to every nuance and couldn't get enough of the newspapers and what tv coverage there was in those days (not much compared to now). And I lived in New York City. Life was good, very good...

11. I enjoy watching Malkin suffer . . . it is, after all, what she does for a living.
Think of it as one of the outtakes from that great Rick Moranis movie, "Honey, I Shrunk the Twits."

14. It did strike me as being a bit odd that he had that sign
and I knew immediately that the Repukes would take issue with it. Remember the flap they tried to make about Sen. Obama having his own "Presidential Seal"?

They're going to use everything they've got to undermine him, he needs to not play into their hands. On one of the Sunday morning talk shows, I heard that he had cancelled the planned fireworks show for Tuesday night in Oak Park, so it shows Obama does not have a tin ear when it comes to being sensitive. He's playing the game right by his "one President at a time" remarks, maybe it was not a great idea to have the sign?

15. It's a non-issue.
Whether it was a good idea or not, no one with a brain will make an issue of it. I hadn't heard about the presidential seal thing until today.

27. Doesn't matter what he does.
If he didn't have the sign, Malkin Et Al would claim that he doesn't love America enough to have a president-elect sign. To be a truly effective leader, he needs to do what he believes is right and ignore the rest -- that's why we elected him.

Michelle, sweetie, it's called THE MANDATE OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!!!

It's a difficult concept to understand, I know, given that most presidents are litigated into office and not actually chosen by the voters. Please.
