Told My Wifes Family Straight Today...

preface....I was at one time a licensed Baptist education Pastor and at this time I still hold my Christian values close to my heart.

My wife's family all voted for Johnny and Mooseshit last Tuesday. Anyhow today on the phone my wife's sister was complaining about how difficult it was getting to afford basic essential. I said you voted for McCain right..yes she said I then said tell me one policy that McCain was going to implement that would help her situation-s out Ahhhhhhhh! I don't know, then what was the reason for voting for him.....cause Sarah Palin is Pro-Life and is a Christian.....so I asked if Palin wasn't Pro life and a Christian you would have voted for Obama....no because our Pastor said he was a socialist...What I said!!!....When???...during his closing comments at church last Sunday night.....(I now am trying to control myself from yelling at her)....I then asked where in the Bible it said that the word of God was to be legislated......I would have to look in to that, I said nowhere does it say that.NOWHERE!!!....I asked her who did Jesus want us to help the most.....she said those in need.....so are you need I asked would some help through the political system help you out right now....yes....well then Obama wants to help those that are in need so with that that makes Jesus a socialist and a grand community organizer Right......but he is not a Christian.....I said prove it wrong then.....Quiet came over the phone.....I said at least you have the smarts enough to not challenge the faith of another brother and closed the conversation saying voting on single issues is dangerous and does not serve you best in the long term .

Oh by the way tomorrow I am calling the church and ordering 2 tapes of the service if I hear the socialist comment I will withhold one tape until after Jan 20th then send it to Mr IRS.

1. Good!! Listen to them first - if they do have that, send it in...
I think it's time churches were stripped of their tax-exempt status.

I believe they're not allowed at all to encourage voting for a candidate.

3. You are correct;
they are NOT allowed to so encourage, and those that care take some care to avoid doing so. Since the last miserable 8 years, they've prolly been strong-armed; that will STOP!

8. Part of the depoliticization that Obama needs to do is with the IRS
It's clear that the churches are gearing up to challenge tax-exempt status to try to have their cake and eat it too. So the IRS needs to know that they need to indiscriminately enforce tax policies. I mean c'mon, you guys took down Al freaking Capone! So yeah, Obama really needs to make sure that the machine of government is working well with a nonpartisan tilt.

20. Ask the sis-in-law what her position is with respect to
in vitro fertilization. If she's for it, point out that the unused embryos are usually destroyed. If she's against, well, then ask her why she hates babies.

24. It is not about single issue voting. Evangelicals have two issues, choice and gays. It is about
insisting that your denomination's interpretation of the Bible become secular law. It is about forcing things that your denomination believes on the country, which violates the purpose of the Establishment Clause. How is that patriotic?

Jesus did not force his beliefs on anyone. He taught. Still doesn't. How is it Christian to do the opposite of what Jesus did and does?

Voting on the basis of religious issues is entirely appropriate if your church is voting on a new pastor. It is neither American nor Christian to do that in elections.

Oh, and her pastor violated the Internal Revenue Code by preaching on a specific candidate and her church should lose its tax exemption. You should be reported that to the IRS once Obama is in office. And, yes, they do act on anonymous tips.

25. BTW, there is at least one place in the Bible that does require people to force
their religious beliefs on others. It's in the ten commandments in Exodux. It requires the Jews (maybe all believers in God?) to force Sabbath observance on even non-blievers. However, the scope of that can be interpreted to mean only those within Israel. Odd that people are not urging state constitutional amendments to make sure all businesses shut down one day a week, though, isn't it? Shows the hypocrisy, doesn't it?

to Jeremiah Wright. Church--i.e., Christian church.

34. "Ah, but what will God say on Judgment Day? Do you remember?
'Not everyone who calls me, 'Lord, Lord,' will get into the kingdom of heaven, but only the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. ...'

And what actions did Jesus describe as going the will of his Father? Giving practical help to those in need. Something Sociliasm does on a large-scale. Not straining at a gnat, only to swallow a camel'".

That is what you should say or write to her.

a "revolutionary," he most assuredly was NOT a communist! Under what definition of "Communism" do you find a statement like "Slaves, obey thy masters"?

The Jesus of the NT was a revolutionary, because he replaced a Covenant of Law with a Covenant of Love, a fact today's RWers (and ill-educated LWers) would do well to remember, imho.

37. I stand corrected on my misleading
attribution of the "Slaves . . ." quote. (Thx for getting me to dust off the King James :)

The point I was getting at, though, was that the Jesus of the NT was not calling for the public ownership of the means of production. He had bigger (or smaller, depending on your point of view) fish to fry than the "dismal science."
