Should I go to Washington for the Inauguration?
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 11:32 AM by edhopper
We have friends to stay with just outside of Washington, but I wonder if it will be worth it for my wife and I to go?
Will we be able to go into DC for the motorcade and get close enough to see the Inaugural Address?
We're not talking about the chance to attend any official function, but will we be able to get to any of the public events?
Thanks for all knowledgeable responses.

1. Depends on how close your friends are to the city.
If it's metro-accessible, absolutely. If not, don't think you'll be able to just drive in. Also don't expect to get a metro park-and-ride spot. Those are tough to come by on normal commuting days, much less for this.

7. Absolutely not.
Metro does not run into Potomac. No way in hell they'd allow common-folk out there. You'd have to drive to a Metro station.

8. Add at least one zero for Inauguration Day.
I'm not even kidding - I've got friends who've gotten $500 from someone to sleep on their couch.

14. Seriously? Wow, I should rent out my couch
Except I think my mom is going to stay with me...but maybe she can share my bed and we can rent out the couch :)

If I'm still with my current employer I might just stay at my office anyway...it's really close to the White House, so it'll be easier to get a spot the next day.

16. I work right across the street from the WH!
Going on the roof is strictly forbidden by Secret Service though, so it'd do me no good to stay here.

11. I'm going. History will be made and I want to be there
I got my room about a month before the election so I'm solid. I have calls in to get tickets but I want to be at least at the parade.

Oh, and there will be a DU gathering

:woohoo:

12. Just be wary of price gouging if you intend to get tickets...CNN reported on it this morning...

If I can get into DC with mass trans and don't have a ticket, would it still be worth going?

17. I'm going with my daughter
all the way from here in Wyoming. We have relatives on my father's side in Delaware. You should be calling your Congressional delegation to reserve some tickets, though...and they won't be dispensed until like a week before the Inauguration, and they must be picked up in person in D.C. :hi:
