Step #1 to reorganize Health Care. |
|
I believe that a full national HC system is way out there in the future... but I know a good start.
Thousands of families face economic disaster every year because a family member has a severe medical condition and is un/under-insured.
There NEEDS to be a Federal program that ensures that
NO AMERICAN will ever be bankrupt because of medical costs.
If an uninsured family that lives on $40,000 per year has a family member break a leg that's a nice fat $50,000 bill. Realistically in today's US, collection agencies will harass and knock at your door, literally and figuratively for the next 10 years.
How about the family with some assets? Maybe the fireman and teacher who net $100,000 per year combined and own their home? The man gets a case of prostate cancer and they have no insurance... they will lose the house, their savings and their children's investments...
Something is wrong.

1. Having a national insurance that covers all catastrophic cases might be a good idea |
|
It would significantly reduce the cost of insurance. As I recall, John Kerry proposed something like this in 2004.
