Well with Obama in the White House that means fried chicken and watermelon will be served
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 05:32 PM by bigdarryl
That's some of the RACIST comments I have heard on my job by some of my fellow sworn Correction Officers. Not in front of me but one white Officer told me and some other African American Officers on the job that a group of Officers were text messaging one another and that was the conversation. They thought he was down with that racist shit but was mistaken. Some of these guys I though were cool but it goes to show you don't know who has racist tendencies until something like the 2008 Presidential election happens.

1. So are you going to do the right thing and report him to your superiors?
And maybe even the attorneys of the prisoners in your correctional facility?

48. These are Corrections Officers in a "justice" system that incarcerates Blacks at SIX TIMES
the rate for whites (see http://www.albany.edu/sourcebook/pdf/t6332006.pdf ).

IMO, any white officer paid by taxpayers to administer "justice" in such circumstances needs racial sensitivity training, and these "jokes" explain why.

Or do you really want to argue that fried chickens and watermelon gag wasn't really racist?

of the crap written by our Repuglican brethern on Freepreep.

What if our President-Elect were Italian? Would spagetti and meat balls be the joke.

If Rudy had been the their nominee and won the General Election would mafia jokes be acceptable? Guess we'll just have to go with the flow and as Barack would do...'flick it off his shoulders'

5. Rise above it
Obama does. The hateful are going to say a lot of things. Let them -- we need to focus on what's important.

Besides, fried chicken and watermelon are yummy.

In a social situation, yes, rise above it. But at work, it's a different matter.
Those racists are creating a hostile work environment and violating the law. If it's reported to the human resources department, they would be fired.

I know that son of a bitch meant it as a racial slur, but there's nothing wrong with those foods.

And a lot of people like them, regardless of race or ethnic origin.

What a fucking idiot.

9. Years ago...
Edited on Mon Nov-10-08 05:43 PM by Davis_X_Machina
...one summer my dad, an assistant principal, had his (black) music teacher and his kids over for a cookout -- probably the first colored folk, tradesmen aside, of any kind ever in this particular neighborhood.

(This is on Boston's South Shore, in the 70's, during busing, in a suburb famously known as "Southie, but with trees". Or, alternatively, "The largest town in Massachusetts without a shul.")

Mom and Dad served -- ta-da! -- inter alia fried chicken, and watermelon.

We kids were mortified.

Turns out it was a great idea. The guy said "We love this stuff, but all the other white folk at school are too uptight to serve it to us."

So, yeah, there'll be fried chicken in the White House -- 'cause it's good.

My cousin told me one of her close friends from high school (they've been friends for 10 years) started sending her stuff like this via text message the day after the election. My cousin ignored it at first, and then replied after the 5th message telling her that she didn't find it funny, nor did she appreciate it. Her friend said, "Oh, I know. I just wanted to see how long it would take you to respond." WTF!! This is also one of those persons who feels the need to express every thought via facebook status on how the world will end because we have a black muslim terrorist as president-elect.

16. My white mother is from the South
And all the food that racists want to typify as African American food is regular fare for Southerners of both races and has always been. Collards, fried chicken, corn bread, fried fatback, blackeye peas, okra, mustard greens, watermelon. All of it is eaten daily in the South. It's Soul food and it's good for the Soul.
