Doesn't the new CNN Poll give Obama the authority for a NEW DEAL?
High Favorable Rating, High Expections and Excitement for his Presidency. But most of all, The people say they are more concerned about stimulating the economy and not the deficit.

He has the Mandate to be a Transformational President.

4. Absolutely, yes.
I've been reading about the so-called "Big Bang" approach, where Obama would move on several fronts at once very quickly once he gets into office -- healthcare, energy, the economy, closing down Gitmo -- and all the pundits keep "warning" him that that would "scare" the public.

Give me a break.

The man was elected on a mandate for *change*.

It was on every poster, every podium, every bumper sticker and billboard.

No one can say they didn't think they'd get change when they voted for him.

And the country says overwhelmingly that we're on the wrong track. So Obama should stay on that wrong track? Just do as little as possible until people get "comfortable" with him? Please. The country is ready. That's why they voted him in. He will never have as much good will and public enthusiasm as he will have during his first 100 days. The public will never be as receptive to change as it is right now.

Just do it.

6. Significant finite political capital
But the people are also likely to be very impatient. Deliver prosperity on February 20th and he can do most anything for four years. But if no improvement comes by May 20th those poll numbers will drop.
