I'm in an email group. My "friends" have been stewing about this for weeks now. They are drinking the koolaid and won't stop.

I don't see any credible evidence to the contrary.

Give me some stuff to hit them with please!!!!

18. It is impossible to educate people who will not take fact into account, I'm wondering
something about these folks that I've been reading about here on DU.

Do your friends show signs of mental illness -- delusions, paranoia, for example?

Or are they just incredibly stupid?

21. Exactly, these folks are beyond hope.
I mean, it's one thing to have friends who "aren't sure about Obama." That's a reasonable fear.

But to actually BELIEVE something that none of Obama's opponents thought to bring up, not the Clintons, not McCain, not even that ***** Palin, during the campaign? HELLO!

Could it be that it's perhaps not true?

The matter doesn't even deserve a response (which is not a slight to you, but to your "Friends."

10. Desperation. Denial. ..... Send them this ....
It is rumored that McCain's mother, while pregnant, left the US base in Panama to go shopping.

She became tired and stopped in a cafe for lunch. Suddenly she went into labor. The cafe workers took her in the back and helped deliver little John MCain. They called him EL Guapo.

After the birth, McCain's mother was unable to travel. So one of the cafe workers let her (and John) stay in her tiny home overnight until she was ready to go back to the base.

The next day, the cafe workers took John and his mother back to the base.

The doctors at the base, unsure what to do, simply wrote the birth certificate as if John McCain had been born on the day they returned to the base.

Technically ... a story like this might mean that John McCain is not be an American citizen. He might actually be Panamanian.

Some argue that John McCain co-authored the Amnesty bill as a way to "give back" to those cafe workers who helped his mother.

McCain has not denied this story. Which make one wonder what he might be hiding.

and MCCAIN never challenged his nomination and presence on the ballots. They have standing to do so, and did not want him to win, so why would they have passed this opportunity up?

The answer is: they probably did, and their attorneys said that his citizenship has in fact been documented. End of subject.

Let's call this whole President thing null and void and start over. After that let's have your "friends" being the observant geniuses they are, solve the economic crisis, then world hunger.

19. For starters....
Legal debunking of the Philip J. Berg lawsuit from a lawyer:

http://www.whatsyourevidence.com/

I've also been doing timelines of this particular fantasy at:

http://www.yestodemocracy.com/

Philip J. Berg is a disgruntled Clinton supporter and "9/11 truther". As for the rest of the players:

Much of the citizenship claims comes from "Judah Benjamin", a Neo-confederate blogging at "TexasDarlin".

Anti-Semite Andy Martin started much of the "Obama is a Muslim" smears

Liar Jerome Corsi is pimping the "born in Kenya" claim

Pamela Geller at the far-right blog "Atlas Shrugs" pimps a lot of the people who claim Obama's got a forged birth certificate.

20. Paranoia and delusions strike deep...
The birth certificate was made public, and the State of Hawaii confirmed it's authenticity and reiterated that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. There is nothing else to offer to make it any more clear.

I'm not sure what kind of conspiracy theory they have going to back this up, but it must be a duzy!

27. Debating a bunch of right wing fellow lawyers
I took the time to look this up:

Title 8 of the U.S. Code, section 1405:

Persons born in Hawaii

A person born in Hawaii on or after August 12, 1898, and before April 30, 1900, is declared to be a citizen of the United States as of April 30, 1900. A person born in Hawaii on or after April 30, 1900, is a citizen of the United States at birth. A person who was a citizen of the Republic of Hawaii on August 12, 1898, is declared to be a citizen of the United States as of April 30, 1900.

So it doesn't even matter if Obama had been born before Hawaii became a state! He'd still be a citizen.

Now watch the freepers try to claim he was born before 1900! Nah, that would be McWalkingCane!

32. Once the birth certificate was posted
They started to claim it was a forgery.

They will never quit. However, the up side is that they will sound more and more absurd and look more and more lunatic.

Like why would Ann go all the way to Kenya to give birth, when she and Obama Sr. met in Hawaii and were married there and lived there? Only in freeper minds is this lunacy even to be suggested.

39. What about Indonesia.....
That's the other broken arrow they try to fire - the claim that Stanley Ann Durham lost her US citizenship when she married Lolo Soetoro. As evidence they cite the Nationality Act of 1940. However, loss of citizenship at marriage only applies to marriages before 1922 according to that act.

They also cite that act as proof Obama lost his citizenship as a result, but the act actually says something completely different. In other words, they don't know what they're talking about.

28. To believe Obama is not a citizen is to believe Hawaii was not a state or,
perhaps, the entire state government of Hawaii as well as the hospital where he was born and the newspaper that printed his original birth announcement began plotting for this moment nearly a half century ago. Tell your email buddies not to forget their meds anymore.

I'm wondering -- do they display signs of mental illness when it comes to other subjects. Are they delusional? Paranoid?

There is really no use in trying to "debunk" this, and there is no utility in posting it on DU for the one millionth time.....these people willfully work against their own self interest, and that fact makes it impossible to wake them to hard, cold facts. In essence, they are morons and will remain that way to the end....including brainwashing their own innocent children to hold the same psychotic beliefs they hold.
