One DUer's story: If I can face down the Campaign Monkey and survive, so can you.
After nearly a year of feeding my habit every morning and night with all the shows on MSNBC; after having RCP and electoral-vote and 538 as my tabbed homepages; after developing and building massive polling spreadsheets and doing daily forceasting all the electoral votes and senate results (Gawd! the polls they just kept coming and coming, I was obsessed, painfully obsessed with the data.)

I have to say I was scared. I dreaded being without data and smart-alecky comments and wicked repartee. I knew it could not last. I knew it had to come to an end. I knew the day was coming. But what would it be like and could I survive without my daily fix. I was vexed, tormented by Tweet and yet strangely mesmerized by Richard Wolfe and Jonathan Alter. I had dreams of Mika and Rachel , which I really can't discuss. I knew I had to get the monkey off my back, to face the demons head on. Once the debates were over, I began to hear the death rattle....It louder, faster. It pounded in my ears at Halloween. It shouted like thunder on Election eve. Pounded like a kettle drum all election days. I knew the end was coming.....could I survive?

I knew if I had an opportunity to break free, it would have to be now. Now or never. I decided to go cold turkey on Thursday of last week. I had to know I could survive' If I could survive just a couple of day. perhaps I could break free.

OK, I broke down once and watched Countdown, but Generally speaking the withdrawal period has been much easier than I thought. But I am free now I tell you! Free!

I just wanted to let people who have yet to face the demons, that you can in fact get through this. You can get the campaign election monkey off your back You can in fact lead a normal life again.

Be encouraged
