Sources: Jarrett headed to White House, not Senate
Sources: Jarrett headed to White House, not Senate

From CNN Political Director Sam Feist
Valerie Jarrett is one of Barack Obama's closest advisers.

(CNN) — Two Democratic sources close to President-elect Barack Obama tell CNN that top adviser Valerie Jarrett will not be appointed to replace him in the U.S. Senate.

"While he (Obama) thinks she would be a good senator, he wants her in the White House," one top Obama advisor told CNN Monday.

Over the weekend, Democratic sources had told CNN as well as Chicago television station WLS-TV that Jarrett was Obama's choice to fill his Senate seat.

Jarrett, a Chicago attorney and one of Obama’s closest advisers, is a leader of the president-elect’s transition team.

Illinois Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the incoming White House chief of staff, praised her as a “valuable ally.”

“People should know that Valerie Jarrett is — and people do know — she is a very dear friend of the president-elect and a valuable ally of his, not only prior to running for president, in his Senate life, and just personally for Michelle and Barack,” Emanuel said on ABC’s This Week.

Several other Illinois Democrats have expressed interest in the seat, including Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.

Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich will make the final decision on Obama’s successor.

2. Agreed. And he will be a fine Senator.
JJ Jr. might even be president himself at some point down the road.

3. I doubt it
They are going to appoint someone who has a good chance of being re-elected. Someone said they had a popular LT Governor there

6. Our governor's approval rating is around 18% and he is a dem. Pat Quinn, our Lieutenant gov is more
popular and if governor Blago ends up in jail he might get his job. The two don't get along. One funny guess some have made is Patrick Fitzgerald so that Blago won't be further investigated. Anyway, here in IL they need a governor's wing of the federal prison. If Blago ends up in jail he will be the 3rd one in recent history (the other 2 repubs, Blago is a dem). It is an interesting soap opera to follow.

7. No Affirmative Action for the Senate - Jackson has baggage
Blagojevich should pick progressive congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.

Jackson is old school - even at his young age. He still thinks like his father. I still haven't forgiven him for campaigning for that crooked son of a bitch Sharpe James against Cory Booker in Newark. The Jackson's, Sharpton's that whole gang of profiteers versus true public servants --- they are old school.

11. Its hard to justify picking Jeese Jackson Jr. over Jan Schakowsky
Who has been a leader in the House. And also one of Obama's biggest supporters.
