Wesley Clark will be eligible for the position mid-2009. So just keep Gates around as a placeholder until Clark is eligible.....

1. Obama should can Gates' Number Two: Gordon England
England is a lunatic still adhering to Rumsfeld's personnel policies and management.

Gordon England thinks that labour unions are communist fronts!

Gordon England MUST GO!

5. Keep Gates around not so much to be a placeholder
but to have the edge.

If Gates does a good job then Obama looks good for keeping him on.

If Gates fails or doesn't do a good enough job he has reasonable cause to dismiss him.
