A memorial service next month for Barack Obama's grandmother will be attended by the president-elect and his family in Honolulu.

Madelyn Dunham died just two days before the election at the age of 86.

Obama flew to Hawaii in the final days of his presidential campaign to see her before she died.

The service is expected to be small, private and low key, according to Dunham's wishes.

she's already been cremated or buried.

7. A memorial service is not a funeral.

Funerals are only timely if there's a body. Many people are cremated which would not put a time frame on a memorial service. At any rate, as I stated before, this is a private matter for the family and hopefully not fodder for the media.

I imagine that she was cremated as was his mother, and my father. ( We scattered my father's ashes a couple of months after he died, as my daughter and husband --who are both private pilots and were doing the scattering-- couldn't get time off, or didn't have good weather when they could, to fly down and do it sooner. They were here when he died, but had to go back to their home and to work before he was cremated. We didn't have a formal funeral, as my dad did NOT want it.

I bet they will scatter Toot's ashes at the same cliff overlooking the ocean where his mother's ashes were scattered. This can be done anytime.
The "traditional" funeral is not always what a family or the loved one who dies wants anymore.

I also think the Obamas have gone to Hawaii around Christmas Time in years past, so it would make sense to do it then.

I asked a simple question about Toots' funeral, it was hardly viciously intrusive - you chose to leave a nasty reply, I can only assume you're having a bad day.

Do you seriously think that if/when Barack Obama and his family leave for Hawaii no one will know about it? It will be a media circus any way, unfortunately.
