WASHINGTON — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has given President-elect Barack Obama a conditional vote of confidence on handling the war in Iraq.

Palin, who has been granting a series of interviews this week, said she would feel comfortable with the Illinois Democrat as commander in chief so long as he surrounds himself with advisers who understand threats against the United States.

In an interview broadcast Wednesday on NBC's "Today" show, Palin was asked whether she felt secure with the notion of Obama being in charge of national security.

She replied: "I'm comfortable with Barack Obama as our commander in chief, assuming that he has those around him who recognize .... that terrorists have not changed their minds ... Those who recognize what the threat is and how to deal with the threat."

Palin's oldest son, Track, is serving in Iraq.

I'm also OK if she talks about her time on the campaign and complains about it (after all, that's a complaint about her treatment by the GOP). But she is not qualified to give any advice to the President-elect about his upcoming task that does not concern Alaska.
