The Obama White House Transition Flowchart.
Al Gore, Colin Powell, Caroline Kennedy in Obama's Administration?

Obama transition team boss John Podesta threw open the curtains of his operation today to reporters, signaling that the president-elect wants to move quickly, but not hastily, to set up his government. In a pen and pad meeting with reporters—that means no cameras—Podesta, tieless, was at ease and confident as he proposed ethics rules governing the transition, promised top cabinet picks by December, and gabbed at length about the friendly and professional relationship he has with the Bush chief of staff, Josh Bolten. He made little news at the packed briefing but pledged that news was coming as he promised to conduct the most transparent transition in history. What we know: He has a budget of $12 million, $5.2 million in federal money with the rest from donors. Some 450 aides will be picking through résumés and policies as they create the government for the 44th president.

The transition flowchart is making the rounds in Washington tonight, though our source would not reveal the actual source of the document. It lists suggestions for top cabinet posts, many of which have been rumored for days inside and outside the new administration. Of note: Al Gore might be under consideration for a "climate czar" position; Colin Powell could be education secretary; Howard Dean might get health and human services; Robert F. Kennedy Jr. might be the head of the Environmental Protection Agency; and Caroline Kennedy could be the ambassador to the United Nations. It's just an unofficial guide but a fun one to follow.

7. I love that one, too!
And I hope Al would take czar of climate change. It's the perfect role for him.

4. James Lee Witt for Homeland Security...
...now that would be a top choice (though Richard Clark would obviously be the more "sexy" one).

13. Since FEMA is under DHS, I'd guess he'd be heading up FEMA again
It'd be good to see him in that capacity again

14. That's a rather bemusing ...
... use of a euphemism with that metaphor.

Not that I'm entirely unfamiliar with the diversity of tastes in that regard, however.

12. why would Powell want to be Sec. of Ed after being Sec. of State?
seems like a step down?

Also there are a lot of powerful dems on that list - I wonder if they would want to leave their current positions? Another thing that strikes me is that there are a lot of the "old guard" on this particular list - and I think folks who supported Obama were looking for a bit more "variety" and new thinking in these appointments.

I like Dean as head of HHS, but I guess I would prefer Richardson to Kerry for SOS.

15. I would implode from the sheer joy of an Al Gore appointment.
It would signal Obama intends to get serious about global warming.

21. I'll be very disappointed...
Clark is my guy, the one that got me involved, the one that has kept me involved. I'll be so disappointed to FINALLY see a Dem back in the Presidency without them looking to Wes Clark for a foreign policy role (NSA, Sec of State, etc).

From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage --

The Associated Press, without naming any sources, is claiming former Alaska Gov. Tony Knowles is among "names often mentioned" as possible appointees for top cabinet posts in the Obama administration.

The AP lists three names for Interior Secretary: Knowles, former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber, and Ken Salazar, a senator from Colorado. Knowles downplayed the speculation.

"I think the AP had a real slow news day and had to pass on every rumor they heard," he said.

Knowles said he's been talking with the Obama campaign about being a part of the president-elect's transition teams. He's anticipating that will happen but said there's been no discussion about him taking a job in the Obama administration.

Knowles, a Democrat who volunteered for the Obama campaign in Alaska, said he's not campaigning for a job but, if an offer came, he would consider it.

Juneau Democratic state Sen. Kim Elton wrote in his constituent newsletter about the AP story floating Knowles' name.

"Juneau's newspaper reported today that Tony Knowles' name was potentially in the hat for Secretary of the Interior. Some of my sources in D.C. said they'd heard he instead was being considered for the energy cabinet post," Elton wrote.

We'll just have to wait and see ~~

23. of the names I know
I could get behind everyone. I also wouldn't mind seeing Obama putting a few Republican senators on his cabinet to show bipartisanship, and to get to 60 in the senate (only GOP senators that would be replaced with Democrats).

Off to blog about this now.
