I worry that Blacks won't come out in force for Martin |
|
during the Senatorial run off next month.
I saw a lot of news footage spotlighting African Americans well into middle age celebrating their vote for Obama.
Problem is, this was the first time they voted.
They should have been voting all along.
Seems for some all that mattered was the POTUS vote.
The Senatorial votes were just not that important.

1. I think I understand your frustration, CW, but I am going to project |
|
that you are wrong. I think a lot of the black folks who came out for Obama will now see that they can and did affect change.
Much to the white man's chagrin. :bounce:

6. Have to tell you a funny story. |
|
My son, who is 16 and the proverbial bull in a china shop, went to school Wednesday 11/5 ELATED that Barack won. It was quickly tempered by some incredibly racist comments by kids who said that the only reason Barack took Virginia was because 'all the blacks came out to vote for him'.
My son said, (yes, MY son, the less that stellar, Hell, less than awful student says) THANK GOD THEY DID. The whites in this stupid state would have given us yet another Bush administration so we owe the blacks in this state a HUGE Thank you.
I'm paraphrasing a bit, but you get the drift. The kid is turning out pretty good. Except for the whole failing grades thing. :eyes:

18. LOL. No kidding. That part of his 'persona' drives me crazy. |
|
But he's totally color blind. He doesn't have a bigoted bone in his body. He tells his friends when they say things like 'yo, that's so gay', that it is really not a good idea to do that because it hurts people who are gay.
He constantly says things like 'who cares if he/she is gay? I don't.' and 'fuck these people who didn't vote for Obama because of his skin color, fuck them.'
One of the few times I don't yell at him about the foul mouth.
The thing is, M. *I* didn't do this. Neither did Mr. We didn't preach tolerance. We just didn't show intolerance.
If I can do that, anyone can. It isn't that hard.

We joke that the only reason we haven't killed him is because he's so cheerful. I mean seriously. How many 16yo boys do you know that wake up with a smile on their faces and continue with it all day long?
He drives me nuts. Mostly because he's exactly like me.

I'm assuming by that comment, Midlodemocrat, that you mean "much to Chambliss's chagrin." (No snark intended, okay?) :hi:
I'm a white female living in Georgia, voted for Obama and Martin, going to definitely vote for Jim Martin in the runoff against asshole Chambliss.

19. LOL. I meant more along the lines of the whites here in VA who |
|
didn't vote for Barack. (of which I am not one, nor most of my immediate street, thank you very much)
I've been surprisingly inundated with a lot of racist crap this last week here. It has really opened my eyes. If these folks took away the 'R' and 'D' label and placed Barack's policies side by side with McCain's, they would have all voted for Obama. These are the quintessential vote your pocketbook folks.
Fingers crossed that the right thing happens in GA and by that I mean the correct thing. :hi:

34. At least in my county... |
|
...the turnout percentage among blacks is higher than among whites. My county is about 20-25% black, and in the two precincts where I have voted and at the county courthouse for early voting, the voting lines were more like 40-50% black. In my experience, black people are among the most faithful voters in my county, and that's been the case going back to the first time I voted here in 1996.
I just checked the Secretary of State's web site and looked at the historical data for my county, and the numbers do match up with my observations. This isn't the case in ALL Georgia counties, though. But we're in a suburban area W/NW of Atlanta, which may have something to do with it.

important this Senate vote is. If they don't know that, I would imagine people would be less likely to go out of their way to vote, and I mean everyone. Have you seen this? It's a good start... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5z5E2npJgw

of the low when it comes to asshole politicians in the South. I hope Karma comes around and knocks him in the side of the head and he loses the runoff to Martin because of what Chambliss did to Max Cleland. I know quite a few folks here in Georgia who feel the same way I do.

24. Yeah. And we can pretty much count on that happening, too. |

It's time for them to get with the program and enter this century. My relatives in Mississippi and Virginia and Tennessee are among the worst, I'm ashamed to say. And we're talking very well educated people, too. Yet they vote right along with those that we have ridiculed here. You know, the ones who can't spell, probably have no jobs, with Confederate flags on their porches and hand-painted Nobama signs on their front lawns.

Again, the ads would have to be targeted. Maybe on a couple radio stations or during certain TV shows.

17. Of course they will. Obama's team is working hard to make sure |
|
they come out for Martin. In addition, just think of how great the African American community feels just knowing that they are a large voting block that can change America. That kind of power is nothing to sneeze at and it is certainly too soon to give it up.

20. Remember Obama's full-court set shot during a break on the trail? IMO Chambliss blocking |
|
that shot in doctored footage of that event would make a GREAT opening for an ad spot. The spot would end with doctored footage of an assist from Martin making the shot go in.
In between, there would be a crisp summary of how 40 Republican Senators could block cloture for up-or-down votes on middle-class tax cuts, universal health insurance, financial re-regulation, alternative energy development, etc.
Who was the filmmaker who often said that every good film must stand on its authentic visual content alone--plot, drama, dialog, and acting performances aside? People would watch more TV over the next three weeks just to see that commercial over and over again, because Obama's full-court shot was just that amazing.

Surely, you realize the Black vote here be it 10% or 100% for Martin is still not enough to elect him. Check the stats. :eyes:

|
White Republicanism in Georgia is a relatively new thing. Even though Georgia voted for Reagan and both Bushes, the state still had Democratic governors until we got Perdue courtesy of Diebold in 2002.
There are lots of working class whites here who think of Republicans as a bunch of crooked, rich assholes.

I told them to be sure to vote for Merkle (the OR Dem who ousted Gorden Smith in the Senate) because Obama was going to need help in the Senate to get the job done. Everyone that I checked back in with said that they had indeed voted for Merkle.
The AA communities in GA need to be heavily canvassed to remind them that Obama needs Martin's help to create change.
