Wouldn't It Be Poetic If coleman, chamblASS, and stevens Gave Us 60? |
|
Is that possible? If this did actually happen, would that make it 60?

Unfortunately.
However...57+ Senate seats virtually guarantees legislative success in the upper body.

2. Even if we're at 58 or 59, Snowe and Collins would probably vote for cloture. |
|
Both are relatively sane and moderate, for Republicans.

4. AZ law specifies that the Gov. has to appoint someone of the same party. |
|
So McCain would be replaced by a Republican.

it would still be poetic.
Just for curiosity, how hard would it be to change AZ so its like AK, requiring a special election?

10. I suppose you'd need to run a bill through the AZ legislature. |
|
Both are Republican majority. I don't know whether that would work against us, with them seeing it as against their interests to risk an election, or if they'd favor it because they would get to pick the Republican candidate instead of having the Dem governor pick an easily-beaten hairdo.

9. Does it specify how long that person has to be a Republican before appointed |
|
Hell, if Lieberman can change parties in the name of political expediency, why shouldn't some Arizona Democrat call him/herself a "Republican" just to get appointed by Janet.
Not that I think Gramps is going to retire anyway. He'll probably die on the Senate floor.

5. If we nailed all three, yes, it would give us 60. |
|
Georgia is probably still the biggest long-shot of the three.

7. If you can spare it, sure. |
|
I expect that the DNC and all are doing their best to raise money for him given that it's the last active race, but in down-ticket races every little bit helps, particularly when he's not going to have the Obama surge to back him up.
