Indiana Senator Richard Lugar Says He Will Stay In Senate(No Cabinet Position)
INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Senator Richard Lugar says he will remain in the Senate and not join Barack Obama's new administration.

The national security expert and leading Senate voice on nonproliferation says he will continue to have a good working relationship on foreign policy with President-elect Obama, but he intends to stay in the Senate.

Lugar says he talked to Obama by telephone on Monday after the president-elect met with President Bush.

Washington insiders have mentioned Lugar as a possible secretary of state under Obama, but the long-time Hoosier senator has not said if he has been approached about the role.

1. That news is a couple of days old. But I am glad he isn't leaving.
If our governor had been defeated I would had been all for Lugar accepting a position.

If Lugar had accepted then that would had mean our current asshole of a governor would get to appoint his replacement.

2. Well, Lugar and Obama are friends--better to have some allies
on the Hill. Lugar could be more amenable to voting with the Democrats on big pieces of legislation.

3. Not my favorite politician, but Lugar is at least one of the Republicans
who can feed himself and speak in full sentences.

He's been around awhile since being Dick Nixon's "favorite mayor."

4. I remember that interview where Wolf Blitzer tried to get Lugar to criticize Obama

Lugar just wouldn't do it.
