Palin understands media and its power, we simple don't. The bottom line is we (collective us)
need to learn how to make the news. Obama should be sending out a piece of news everyday. It is much easier to be a negative force than a force for change.

If Obama's team doesn't get on top of this media assault he will be swift boated by Jan 20th and will spend next yr explaining every down turn in the economy, etc. He needs to start bashing the failed policies of Bush and let everyone know it will be a tough couple of yrs, or else he will own the problems.

Palin is the new Rush.

1. Palin understands very little of anything
And that is apparent every time she opens her mouth ...

I am hoping, a fading hope it seems, that DU doesn't become a den of apology for the likes of Sarah Palin ...

She is an ass ... a foolish, ignorant ass ....

We will be hard pressed to lighten up on those who would lift her beyond her natural station ...

14. If she understood the media she would know that it is best to avoid the media
until she has something important to say.

Not whenever she has time to blabber about nothing.

3. Obama doesn't understand the media, but Palin does? What nonsense.
The media assholes are choosing to give her a platform. There is enough other news to cover.

11. Yes.
The election is over. Palin is not going to be the VP. She is only "news" because the MSM decides she is.

5. McCain ran his campaign fighting for every news cycle. Obama didn't and doesn't.
He has a long term strategy and isn't focused on the daily noise.

McCain's formula was a loser and Obama's was a winner.

I'd give him a little credit for knowing what he is doing.

Right now, he is focused on forming an effective and intelligent government. I think that is much more important then surrendering a news cycle to Sarah Palin's ridiculous ramblings. She was on Cable TV CONSTANTLY during the campaign and her numbers plummeted.

Obama is doing just fine. The success of his Presidency will be in large part determined by the important decisions he and his people are making in private right now.

6. I disagree.
Obama is doing the right thing by keeping a clamp on his team and by limiting the news that comes out. The more he puts out there, the more there is the for the press and the repubs to pick apart. And then he ends up being forced to defend his decisions even before he's sworn in. He should take it slow and, frankly, limit most of his "news" to the announcement of personnel. And those announcement shouldn't be made until the selected individuals are fully vetted and the team as a whole largely selected.

Laying low is the smartest thing for Obama and his team right now. Palin's media-fest really is not accomplishing that much. The folks that like her still like her and those who don't, still don't. A lot of others are beginning to tune it out and as the holidays approach, she'll be gone from the news and folks won't remember much of this at all. And then, in mid January, Obama will stand in front of the capitol, before the largest audience to ever witness (in person or on tv) an inauguration, and he will give a speech that will remind everyone what it means to be presidential and the media will be put back on their heels in terms of trying to tear him down for the first few months of his presidency.

9. I agree...
and was thinking the same thing.

I do disagree with your characterization of Palin as Rush. Actually, she's Ann Coulter. You can bet your bottom dollar that she's full of the same vitriol as Ann...boiling just below the surface. Our job is to release it and let the country see it in all it's splendid goriness.

She's got the zingers...she's got the hate....and most women are not fooled by her Shirley Temple act.

21. Nonsense. She got all the exposure they gave her during the campaign
She looked like a fool, facilitated McCain's slide into the depths of the gutter, and they both lost.

She looked like a fool then, and she still does.

10. Palin is a bubble brain. Every time she goes on TV she
embarrasses all women who want to be taken seriously in life.

While the Palin car wreck goes on, Obama is being respectful and serious.

I think the contrast is striking indeed and I don't think Obama needs to or should try to compete with media coverage of this sad woman.

20. Um, you do know that Obama won - right?
I'll give him and his media operations the benefit of the doubt.

And Palin in not the new Rush. There's a reason why the Republicans maintained a modicum of separation between their party leaders and Limbaugh, Hannity and the other crazy relatives in their closet. It was only when those lines were blurred that the party started unraveling. If Palin wants to run around bringing hard-core right wing tendencies to the forefront of the GOP's image, I won;t complain.

Clearly he should be more like that beacon of success, Sarah Palin. After all, some anonymous schlub on the Internet said so.

Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 11:18 AM by WI_DEM
and there will be plenty of news ahead about cabinet picks. Palin is not talking policy and most people think she is a drip. In a week or so she will be out of the limelight. Obama is not in a race he is handling this the way he handled his campaign and I know there were people panicking then too. Obama is cool as a cucumber and knows what he's doing.

30. Every once in a while, you'll still see a member of the Doom and Gloom Patrol saying
"guys guys guys the Republicans know what they're doing this is all a trap we need to drop everything and be exactly like them!" This is strange after an election in which the Democrats gained Governors, Senators, Representatives, and the White House. This is especially bizarre when the poster is suggesting that the Democratic President-elect is a fool who needs to act more like the person he resoundingly defeated just over a week ago.
