A statistical dead heat, heating up in the Franken - Coleman Race
This is a good article in today's Pioneer Press comparing the 2008 MN Senate Recount to the 2000 Florida Presidential Recount.

By Jim Ragsdale

Article Launched: 11/13/2008 12:01:00 AM CST

U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman strode to a podium in his campaign headquarters the morning after last week's election and claimed victory. "I'm humbled and gratified for the victory that the voters gave us last night,'' he told his cheering supporters. "The people of Minnesota made a clear statement last night — we expect you to work together to get things done."

Coleman's unofficial lead over Al Franken at this writing, subject to a recount, is 206 votes out of 2.88 million cast, a margin of less than one-hundredth of 1 percent.

You can't have a statistical dead heat when someone is leading.

3. You do in this case
The simple reason is, these are unofficial totals. At best, this is an estimate, so it is a dead heat.

When you have certified results, well, that's a different story. The only way to have a dead heat with certified results is for two candidates to have precisely the same nuber of votes.

1. Coleman is full of it. When he made that statement he was under 500 votes ahead and knew there
was going to be a recount--and victory was anything but assured.

2. I wonder how small of a vote total difference Coleman would think
to make it an unclear statement?

4. I hope this turns well for Franken.
Coleman is grasping for straws.

7. No kidding! No. 1 Rove plant after Saxby Chambliss in GA.
They Diebolded GA (totally non-transparent, no paper trail) early on, ran a pre-written narrative that Max Cleland (who left three limbs in Vietnam) was a 'terrorist-lover,' and fraudulently reversed his big lead, to (s)elect that total scumbag Chambliss.

Test run for MN and for the U.S. 2004. After Paul Wellstone's plane went down--strong labor Dem who had pledged to lead the fight against the invasion of Iraq in the Senate--two weeks before the 02 election--former U.S. VICE PRESIDENT Walter Mondale stepped in for Wellstone, but progressive MN elected this little fascist worm, Coleman, instead? I'm sorry, that is NOT credible. Nor was Bush-Cheney in 04.
