Doesn't that mean there are way fewer people identifying themselves as Republican than there used to be?

I'm not math expert, but it seems as if the ranks of Independents are swelling. If more than half the country was still Republican, you'd think that number would be way higher than 45%.

1. 45% is still amazingly high.
I know I'm singing to the choir, but can America be that stupid?

6. According to Gallup, 45% of the entire country wants to see Palin "stay in the spotlight."
I think that number would be even lower if the question was actually "run for President in 2012."

3. One is not to use logic and reason....
when discussing the future prospects of the Republican party. This is center-right nation, despite what all the recent polls and election results may have suggested, but don't you doubt we are center-right for one instance!!!

:sarcasm:

8. In 2004, when 51% of the country voted for George W. Bush.
I know there were Dems and Independents in there too, but you have to assume there were a similar number of Repubs and Independents voting for Kerry. And Bush was Mr. Republican--he certainly didn't run as a Maverick.

13. Doesn't matter--a close race in Ohio was guaranteed from the polls...
...and the results would not have made much of a dent in the popular vote one way or the other (In fact, Kerry would almost certainly have lost the popular vote had he won the election.)

Like it or not, a bit more than half of the country voted for W in 2004.

Not even close to 50 percent.

12. It's amazing consedering her inability
to form a single idea. She doesn't even have opinions on half the issues facing the nation. Heck Joe the Plumber showed himself to be in more command of the state of the nation than Palin.
