Seriously. Former USA, great Senator, lawyer, legal beagle, knows a lot of sub textural dirt, heart in right place, smart, great intellect.

What's not to love about this? NEVER thought of it until this Hillary for SOS talk. This is a BETTER slot for Kerry.

1. no offense, but Kerry is too old now
Edited on Thu Nov-13-08 08:17 PM by NewJeffCT
he's what, 65 years old now, or so? Sec of State, or Attorney General if he wants an administration job, or maybe NSA?

He'd be older than Roberts, Alito and Clarence Thomas.

He would get in a good 8 - 10 years, I would guess.

17. I do, I want the youngest liberals we can find.....
You don't think Roberts isn't going to be on the court for at least 20 years? Alito? Another 20 years. We need to get as many liberals in while we have the opportunity to do so. The 2 Justices who are set to retire are BOTH liberals.

35. Okay how else do you propose that we stop the country from descending into theocratic fascism?
Supreme Court appointments are an ideological arms race. While it would be wonderful if both sides would stop fighting this arms race, the right wing is never ever going to. The sooner Democrats realize this, the better.

8. I don't think politicians make great supreme court justices
Politicians - by their very nature - like the limelight. I don't mean that in a negative way, either.

However, the role of Supreme Court justice is one of great isolation. Sure, they get out and give speeches every now and then, but it's still a very, very different environment.

19. it was the gaffe that gave us four more years
of George W. Bush. Bashing election losers is not "RW talking points," its merely facing the music which was played in November 2004. Kerry makes gaffes all the time, as that military joke could easily have been tweaked to not get taken the wrong way. It could have ended "or you get your troops stuck in Iraq," but Kerry can't think on his feet.

as John Kerry gave us McCain. You sound like a left wing zealot, criticizing her for sounding tough on Iran, and "warmongering," which is what Kerry did when he voted for Iraq, according to you and your ilk.

30. maybe Kerry's perceived weakness on security
helped cost him the 2004 election, considering a draft dodger frat boy was seen as tougher than he was. Kerry was not trusted to handle terrorism by http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html 58-40.

37. JUDGES PEOPLE. We need people who acutally know how to do this....
not some politician who has never written an opinion and didn't even practice constitutional law. I'm a lawyer, but just being a lawyer does not make you qualified. We need people who actually know the constitution inside out. Nominating any politician or non-judge at best would be another Harriet Miers and at worse would give us the left's version of Clarence Thomas, who never asks a question and can barely write a proper opinion. I think people underestimate what it takes to actually be a Supreme Court Justice.
