HClinton for SOS -- it could happen for all I know -- but then who
replaces her as Senator from the Empire State?

Does Gov. Paterson make the selection or is a special election held?

3. I don't know about that...
HRC emerged from the Primaries with a greatly improved image. Big Dog? Not so much.

5. Folks in the Middle East want Bubba...
a friend of mine in the field told me.

The world loves Bubba and they're concerned that Obama will send a bunch of know-it-all whiz kids. Bubba is a known quantity.

It would never happen, but I don't think this is the job for Hillary. Or Kerry.

7. Well, frankly, I'm not sure Bubba would do it.
I don't see him wanting to be a team player in any new White House unless he's LIVING in it.

:wtf:

Well, a friend of mine told me they wanted Obama as President, and were cool with whomever he chose as SOS.

19. I'm advocating neither Clinton as SoS, actually. But I know MANY...
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 12:39 AM by MookieWilson
people in the field of Middle Eastern diplomacy and foreign affairs US and foreign that said they would have loved to have Clinton as an envoy for the Middle East. He came closer than anyone to getting peace out there and they know they like working with him. They haven't forgotten.

But as I've said in several threads on this board, I don't think Hillary C is the right person for this job.

I've no doubt folks around the world are looking forward to dealing with Obama's folks.

ps. You're friends aren't diplomats or Middle Eastern scholars, just a hunch. I live in a little town called Washington, DC.
ppss. Spare me the sarcasm.

21. You might call me an Obama groupie, but I will only say that you are not as important as you think
you are.

You say......"The world loves Bubba and they're concerned that Obama will send a bunch of know it all whiz kids"....is what you said.

Anyone who purports to know what the "world" is concerned about is suspect, IMO.

23. As an envoy he'd have to be on his best behavior or risk not being used again.
A permanent position for either Clinton would be inviting trouble. I consider it permanent b/c once H.C. was named as SOS there would be no way that they would let Obama take it away.

6. Hi, Windy. I thought maybe Kerry, Richardson, Holbrooke, and
possibly others would be on the short-list.

We returned home after errands to see this new headline on HClinton.

I am wondering what the logistics and climate would be for her replacement there in New York if she were chosen to that or another Cabinet position.

I see her as Ambassador to someplace before SOS.

8. I think you're jumping the gun here. Hillary's happy in the Senate. I don't know why CNN is making
such a big deal out of a rumor. Frankly I think it's irresponsible journalism.

10. I'm comfortable with the story being only a rumor.
On the other hand I can see the possible strategy.

Until today I heard Holbrooke / Richardson / Kerry / etc.

It's interesting that HClinton's name is being mentioned now, and it could be a legitimate feed or CNN sending up toy bubbles again.

11. I think Andrea "Scoop" Mitchell broke the story.
And, not that I would have a huge problem with it, I don't exactly trust Mitchell. She had a thing for reporting on weird rumors during the primary. I can see her saying "Tell me that she's not being considered...tell me", and "I can't tell you that", with Andrea going "OMG, SCOOP!"

12. I didn't know Andrea Mitchell was the source contact. That dims the
rumor a bit, for the reasons you mention.

She's not always wrong, I realize, but she is often skewed in her approach to a story.

15. I know, right?
This is the same person who said that the American public wants Scooter Libby pardoned. I wouldn't be THAT surprised if Hillary is being considered, but Andrea can be sketchy. And she made a huge deal of "Annd, now it will be REALLY AWKWARD if she doesn't get it!" Why, Andrea, because you are a drama queen? I also remember her making a big deal about the supposed fighting between the Obama and Clinton fundraisers.

It was kind of fun, though, watching her buried beneath all those balloons on tv at the convention...

Tom Suozzi even, he's a moderate who has done really well on Long Island, a once Republican stronghold in the Pre-Clinton era

22. Well, anyway, if either Kerry or HClinton is chosen as SOS it sets into
motion a process by which their replacement are chosen -- in both cases by Democratic governors if that's how it's done in those states, or by special elections if THAT is the process -- but both in very blue states.

In the event that either of these two is chosen as SOS I wonder who their replacements might be.
