I am impressed at how secure Obama is in his own abilities... |
|
First he picked Biden as his VP, a very accomplished and experienced Senator who ran against him for president.
He picked Rahm Emanuel, an aggressive person and a Clintonite, to be his Chief of Staff.
And the names being thrown around for positions in his administration. Hillary Clinton. John Kerry. Chuck Hagel. Colin Powell. Larry Summers. Paul Volcker. Bobby Kennedy Jr. Caroline Kennedy. Al Gore. Bill Richardson. Tom Daschle.
Now whether you agree with those picks or even like them, these are all very accomplished, experienced people, some with famous last names and associations. Seriously, which Dem wants to have to compete with the legacy of the Kennedys or even the Clintons? Apparently Obama doesn't really care about that, he's just looking for people who can do that job. People from other administrations, from another party, some who who ran against him.
By contrast, look at some of the dolts that Bush brought to the WH with him, lackeys like Harriet Miers or Alberto Gonzales who had no business being in the positions they were in. Or far right retreads like Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz. Or someone like Condi who probably never should have risen above staffer level.
I'm impressed, it looks like Obama is looking for people who can get the job done, who might be more accomplished and experienced than he is, just as smart and who might disagree with him a whole lot. It says a lot about him. He's willing to be challenged and willing to challenge.

3. yes, like I know I'm going to disagree with a choice |

I haven't always been a fan of Rahm, but I respect the guy and he obviously is competent. I don't see Barack hiring a less than stellar staff, he seems to always be on his game.
