Obama May Be Considering Clinton For Secretary Of State

By: NY1 News

CNN is reporting that sources close to President-elect Barack Obama's transition team say New York Senator Hillary Clinton is one of several candidates being considered for secretary of state.

However, a source close to Clinton told NY1 Thursday that the senator has yet to be contacted about that, or any other cabinet position.

A Clinton spokesman told CNN any speculation about the senator having a part in the upcoming Obama administration should be addressed by his transition team.

The Obama team also mentioned Clinton as a potential vice presidential candidate but never actually discussed the position with her.

Clinton is scheduled to speak at a conference on mass transit Friday in Albany.

In her Report, Andrea Mitchell claimed that Hillary went to Chicago, as if to suggest a meeting.

"There's a lot of disinformation out there."

The rumors are thick and ridiculous.

1. "thick and ridiculous" is exactly the right phrase
"Disinformation" is another perfect word. The speculation about Hillary tonight on NBC/MSNBC was particularly ridiculous. I can't believe for a minute that Andrea Mitchell or Keith Olbermann or anyone else on NBC really believe their own guff about HIllary's alleged prospects. But I do believe that at least some of the "leaks" from "Obama advisors" are deliberate smokescreens, designed to mislead and divert the press, so that real decisions can be made in quieter circumstances without the paparazzi hovering nearby.

2. Good point and good references. Until Obama confirms it, I am not going to believe
anything coming from the press. I heard the press has no idea who really has inside knowledge and who doesn't.

3. Frankly

I think it may have been offered and accepted. For some reason this is the way Obama likes to announce things...remember the Biden and Rahm Emmanuel fiasco.

Andrea Mitchell I don't like at days but she has some credibility. Don't think she'd risk it without it being someone in the know.

10. Yes, and I have heard reported that Kerry is a done deal. Frankly, I would much rather Kerry
be named-honestly- will be ever be rid of the Clinton's? But I am not going to believe anything until Obama says it.

4. AP is pushing this shit hard, every hour on the radio
So it's obvious it's who THEY want, at least.

One they mentioned that was interesting though was that "early talk of Clinton died down because party activists were reacting to the news".

Interpret that however you want, but it appears Team Transition is watching us. And I hope they're taking notes. We are the ones who got him elected, after all.....

5. I have no problem with it
I volunteered and fought her for 6 weeks.

She's tough. Would have no problem her sitting at the table with any world leader.

7. My main problem with Hillary as SOS comes down to two words
"Obliterate Iran".

Obama's made it clear that he would like to attempt a reasonable dialog with somebody in Iran eventually. If Hillary is his official representative overseas, that might be a problem.

9. Actually that is a selling point to me
Hell I'd like her better at Sec. of Defense.

You need a hawk that scares the shit out of people in your cabinet.

8. I hope that Obama selects someone who is a consumate diplomatic professional
Most such people I would not recognize the names of. Two who have been prominent are Susan Rice, who was an exceptional Foreign policy surrogate, or Nickolas Burns who I think was career foreign policy State Department. The reason is that between Obama, Biden and Kerry (not as chair of SFRC - but because he clearly will be one of the people both Obama and Biden will speak to) and the rest of Obama's foreign policy team, you may not want another high profile person wanting to set their own agenda.

11. You have a point about Rice and less prominant people, but I would still prefer Kerry.
And, for obvious reasons.
