2. I heard that she went to Chicago on personal business, not to meet with Obama team. Andrea Mitchell
reported that.

3. Andrea Mitchell last night
said Hillary was in chicago, but that is as far as she went. She specifically said, if I remember correctly (which, I'll admit, on a Friday may not be the case) that there was no information available as to WHY she was there.

Being in Chicago does not automatically equate to meeting with the transition team....Although it is right up there in terms of possibility.

6. I don't think it's gossip. Mercurio didn't even report it as speculation
but as fact.

7. And he does that with a lot of gossips that eventually turn out of be false.

The transition team say they have nothing to say on the topic. The rumors seem to have emerge from some comments transition team people made that Clinton's world name recognition would make her efficient as SoS.

I am not saying they did see her or not. I am saying that Mercurio probably does not know better than you and I if she did. Remember the rumors that she was considered as VP when she was never vetted.

10. ok. provide some examples then of his having done that.
and yeah, sorry, Mercurio's information is probably a hell of a lot more insider info than anything you or I can get hold of. All Mercurio said is that she was in Chicago yesterday meeting with the transition team. And her spokepeople have not denied it.

5. From AP
Officials: Sen. Clinton eyed as secretary of state

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is among the candidates that President-elect Barack Obama is considering for secretary of state, according to two Democratic officials in close contact with the Obama transition team.

Obama considering Hillary Clinton for Secretary of State

November 13, 2008

BY ABDON M. PALLASCH Political Reporter/apallasch@suntimes.com

As the press pool following President-elect Barack Obama waited for him to emerge from his Transition Team headquarters in Chicago Thursday afternoon, someone else's motorcade of three SUVs emerged from the same underground garage.

This development coincides with NBC news quoting two Obama advisors saying that Obama was considering Sen. Hillary Clinton for the position of Secretary of State.

Clinton was seen taking a flight to Chicago Thursday, NBC reported, though that was reportedly for personal business, though it did not preclude the possibility of a meeting between Obama and Clinton, NBC reported.

The Obama campaign did not immediately return a request for comment on whose motorcade preceded Obama's out of the underground garage beneath the Kluczynski Federal Building Thursday evening.

Clinton and Obama fought a sometimes brutal Democratic primary election but after Obama won, Clinton made stops around the country urging her supporters to vote for him. Clinton has been mentioned as a possible Supreme Court appointee or candidate for other cabinet post -- perhaps a reprisal of her unsuccessful effort as First Lady to solve the health insurance crisis. But she also stressed during her campaign her visits abroad trying solve international conficts in places such as Northern Ireland and Kosovo.

<...>

Ten to 15 minutes after the mystery motorcade emerged from the underground garage, Obama's motorcade emerged and headed to Obama's home in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood.

16. Not to mention her famous visit under sniper fire to Bosnia
More seriously, even if she met with Obama, there is still the question of the extensive vetting that Obama wants done. Another question is how this works given her husband's independent interactions (which have done good things) with other nations. There are also the multi-million dollar speeches that Clinton has made - would he continue to do them - if so, could they be compromising to the administration.

Also, SoS is not an equal position with the President. In the debates, there were areas where HRC seemed to disagree on fp with Obama. As Senator, she is free to take whatever position she wants - not as SoS. HRC has likely last been in a position where she has had anyone above her since 1992.

15. I will live. I think there are a lot of better choices, but ultimately, it is Obama's choice.

This is why I see these threads and all those who think they can influence a choice as meaningless.

17. It will look more like the third term of Clinton which is not what I voted for.
And it will make me seriously wonder, what in the heck was he thinking.

18. She was born in Chicago and probably has family there. A thousand reasons why she could have
gone there. Maybe her trip had something to do with Obama; maybe not. Calm down.
