Andrea Mitchell jumps on any rumor/leak as if it were fact. This Hillary rumor is a heavy handed one designed to stir up shit and to fill a slow 24 hour news cycle.
SoS will be either Kerry or Richardson. Out of those two, I have no clue who will get the job, but I think either man will do a good job.

but I think that the SoS will not be any of these three well known people. I hope that Obama picks names of people we either slightly know of - or don't know at all - who are career diplomats. Susan Rice, who was a fantastic surrogate, or someone like Nickolas Burns. The thing to consider is that it will not be the SoS who determines the foreign policy.
The actual direction the foreign policy will move in is President Obama's decision. He will listen to the advisers only as much as he trusts and agrees with them. Obviously one prominent voice will be Biden. I assume that Kerry will be as well. I think he may speak to Presidents Carter and Clinton as well. I hope that Obama's foreign policy is as much as a turn from the foreign policy of the last several decades as Kerry's would have been. From his speeches, I think he will be. We need to get beyond world views that led to things like supporting the Contras, legally or illegally, or OBL - because they were fighting people we didn't like. (both Clintons and Richardson supported backing the Contras - though obviously in a legal way. Kerry was 100% against this.)
What astonishes me is that many on the left are still so caught up in the 2004 primary wounds that they fail to recognize that Kerry had the most liberal international views of anyone who ran for decades.

4. Of the three, Richardson seems the best fit for the job, IMHO. nt |
