What would Clinton do after being SOS?
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 10:44 AM by TeamJordan23
She would be SOS for 2-4 years max. What would she do after? I think she may want to stay in the Senate.

1. Hillary 2016, of course.
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 10:44 AM by ClarkUSA
She has no intention of being another Ted Kennedy. She wants the spotlight. And she needs to wash away the ridicule of her
shameless lies about sniper fire and brokering Irish Peace.

13. No, I mean 2016. She won't win the primaries w/o the AA vote which Obama has locked up.
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 05:18 PM by ClarkUSA
Plus, Iowans don't like her while they LOVE Obama. And I doubt another teary photo-op will win her NH again.
If she challenges incumbent President Obama and attacks him during the primaries, she'll be political toast and
she knows it.

19. I agree here.
For one, I highly doubt Obama will allow himself to be put in such a bad position as President that he'll have to deal with a serious primary challenge in 2012.

Second, I think that Obama and Clinton have come to an understanding by the time of the DNC, and certainly have some sort of arrangement by now as to Clinton's role - I doubt that running for POTUS in 2012 is part of that. She's likely to get a Cabinet post, or a more prominent role in the Senate.

24. If people are hurting really, really bad economically, I wouldn't put any
money on Obama having any vote locked up.

26. No one who has any smarts is going to blame Obama for the economy's continuing ills...
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 07:51 PM by ClarkUSA
Only Rush Limbaugh dittoheads in and out of Congress and bitter Hillaryland PUMAs would even go there.
It took Bush eight years to drive the economy to its knees and most Americans understand there is no
quick fix and that it will take at least that long to get the economy on its way to the recovery room. People
get that and certainly AA voters do not expect miracles, not after the hand they've been dealt through the
centuries.

President Obama will make sure Americans know what he is doing and why he is doing it every step of the
way so there is no ambiguity as to who's at fault. He will always lay the blame at Bush's feet as well as the
ill-conceived deregulation of decades past. No fucking way will Obama allow himself to be a scapegoat
and AA voters won't allow it, either. In fact, any attempt to make their president look bad will be met
with a furious and sustained defense at the polls, so Democratic presidential hopefuls should beware of
making permanent demographic enemies. The Clintons have done enough harm to themselves among AA
voters this time around. I doubt they want to completely burn their bridges with the AA community by
challenging the incumbent AA president with ill-founded Mark Penn-style attacks in 2012. That goes
for Democratic candidates of the Clinton stripe across the country as well - hello, Terry McAuliffe - who
won't win without AA turning out for them or having Obama grassroots supporters volunteering for them.

Besides, Barack will do to any future opponents what he did to Hillary and McCain this year-- beat them.
With a smile. :)

15. Not if she's in the cabinet
I think that would be pretty unprecedented to have a cabinet member challenge a sitting president. Unless she were to make some public break with Obama over a major foreign policy issue and resign in protest during the first 1-2 years, then use that as a springboard to run. But Obama would have to really screw up for that to be plausible.

I have watched enough Clinton psychodrama to last me a lifetime. Also, I don't fancy the spectacle of watching Senate hearing
Republicans dig into Bill's sleezy lucrative backroom deals with despots and dictators. And his secret, well-guarded library donor
list will have to see the light of day. Besides, come hell or high water, you and I know she'll be there with bells on in 2016. Ugh.

3. The only way she could be seriously thinking about this...
...is if she doesn't like being a Senator.

I got a sense that Mark Dayton (D-MN) didn't like being a Senator (he declined to run for a second term in 2006), but he faced a Republican majority and a Republican administration.

Why wouldn't she serve as SOS for Obama's entire term (hopefully 8 years)

The next logical stepping stone is a seat on the Supreme Court.

8. Retire?
If she can hack it for 8 years, she'd be 68 at the end of Obama's 2nd term. Comfortable retirement giving speeches, writing books, etc. Not too bad a prospect actually.

Why do you think she would want to remain in the senate? she may decide that it would be a great way to cap her career as sos or she could even run for president later on.
