Caroline Kennedy could replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate??
I think I'm beginning to see Obama's rationale behind this. Clinton takes the SOS job and Gov. Paterson appoints Caroline Kennedy to replace Hillary in the Senate!

1. Unlikely. Caroline has little political clout in NY

7. She's a Kennedy....she already comes with clout
I think she'd make an excellent Senator! However, it's funny to hear people saying she has no political experience, but yet, pray for Al Franken to win the Minnesota senate race.

2. for one thing I don't think she is a citizen of NY. RFK, jr. is and would make more sense
but I'm not sure we really need to appoint a Kennedy--Caroline or RFK if she were appointed.

4. huh? Of course she's a citizen of NY Has been for decades.
That said, I don't see why she should be appointed. Same goes for RFK.

8. I think the word you're looking for is resident...
and she is a long time resident of NY.

Before Hillary ran, Rep. Nita Lowry was looking for the job. Maybe she still wants it.

Caroline Kennedy is going to be the next VP/SOS/UN Ambassador/HHS Sec/Postmaster General/Senator? She isn't a political player in the slightest.

9. Not true. Didn't she chair the VP selection process for Obama? That certainly went well by all
accounts. And she is an accomplished lawyer, author, and a director on the Commission for Presidential Debates, among other things. Wiki link:

Not sure it adds up to a cabinet level position but some type of political appointment in the Obama administration is entirely feasible. To say "she is not a political player in the slightest" is certainly not true.

5. Aren't we taking the "famous" name thing a bit too far?
I love Caroline Kennedy and she used her fame and influence well in the campaign. But I think we should get away from famous for the sake of famous and bring in new blood to become famous on their own. Women, in particular...

10. Has anyone considered whether she would even want it?
She hasn't shown any desire to get into politics. She's had many opportunities to do this but has not done it.

11. RFK jr wants his dad's seat, though Caroline K would be fine with me.
There's a lot of pressure on HRC to move out or into Reid's post to make it worthwhile to stay.

a half a dozen families in the US are capable of having ideas or governing the nation?

15. Pssst. if you're famous AND go to Harvard or Yale, you get whatever you want.
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 11:15 AM by MookieWilson
If we really wanted diversity in government - including the White House - we'd vote against everybody who went to Yale or Harvard, for a start.

FDR: Harvard
JFK: Harvard
Ford: Yale
GHWB: Yale
DUKAKIS: Harvard
WJC: Yale
HRC: Yale
GORE: Harvard
GWB: Yale
KERRY: Harvard
BHO: Harvard
MRO: Harvard

FDR: I'm sure glad folks didn't vote against me because of TR!
ER: No shit!

17. Yale explicitly says that it is the college to groom our nation's leaders.
Yalies are VERY proud (and jealous) of that.

Since this is "Ask a dumb question day", I just thought I'd ask.
