i just 'accidentally' got this email re: corporate firings of Obama supporters.
I thought I would fire off a response, and I am just waiting for the freeper blowback. I love getting emails that have about 100 people involved that I don't know. "Who the f*** is islandmkl? And, why is he emailing this crap?" love it....

the original email:

Sent: Nov 14, 2008 2:26 PM
To: deleted so none of you attempt to add to the misery
Subject: from the CEO

Fellow Business Executives:

As the CFO of this business that employees 140 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our next President, and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure that the clients will have to see an increase in our fees to them of about 8% but since we cannot increase our fees right now due to the dismal state of our economy, we will have to lay off 6 of our employees instead. This has really been

eating at me for a while, as we believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who will have to go.

So, this is what I did. I strolled thru our parking lot and found 6 Obama bumper stickers on our employees' cars and have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. These folks wanted change; I gave it to them.

If you have a better idea, let me know.

Sincerely,

Your Boss

my 'reply all:

Dear Boss:

It has come to the attention of all the members of our company's 'family' that Barack Obama has not even taken office, yet. And while some may anticipate the 'BIG increases in taxes and government fees' that you mention as the basis for your actions, we find that your reasoning, as such, is fundamentally flawed. Our CURRENT situation, which we all know is dire, is a result of the complete meltdown of the financial markets, the mortgage crisis, tremendous spending on the war in Iraq, and the fact that many hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost just this year alone.

While President-elect Obama may propose plans that you and others consider to be detrimental to business, those plans have not yet been implemented. What HAS been implemented are 8 years of George W. Bush's plans, supported by 12 years of Republican rule in both houses of Congress. Just today, the stock market fell to a point lower than it was after 9.11.01! For the past month, we employees have been perusing the parking lot, examining bumper stickers and noting those with 'McCain/Palin', 'W '04' and, remarkably, even some 'Bush/Cheney 2000' stickers. We have found many, many of those vehicles with such bumper stickers throughout the parking lot, primarily in management parking slots and business-guest parking slots.

Therefore, we propose that all supporters of the policies of the past 8 years bear the true burden of 'our' situation. After all, who in America can possibly believe in 'pre-emptive' penalties (i.e. job loss) for something that has not yet happened? Especially when those who supported those activities that got us into this situation bear no burden? So, we employees have determined that until management can demonstrate a plan of action to counter-act the effects of the past 8 years, which management has whole-heartedly endorsed and supported, we will provide NO PRODUCTION. Think of us as 'outsourcing' our efforts. We know this will leave your company in immediate dire straits, but, on the other hand, at least NOW you can deal with a real dilemna instead of one you only imagine. Plus, now you won't have to feel 'guilty' about firing a few of us.

Sincerely,

The Employees

p.s. 12 of the 16 people who voted for McCain are joining in our action. They didn't want to have to try to do all the work by themselves.

p.p.s. Larry the IT guy says that his code is 'proprietary', which you apparently thought didn't have any value when you hired him. He says there is a typewriter and a calculator in the closet in room 222.

3. Reply: How would you like to lose 52% of your domestic business
Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 07:07 PM by ddeclue
and 95% of your international business?

All you have to do is fire me over my choice for President and I'll make sure that every TV camera in America hears about it. What will I have to lose at THAT point?

If the public finds out that you are a vindictive and nasty jerk that's exactly how much business you will lose based on how the election went.

On the other hand, now that YOUR guy lost, it might be good for you to have some connected Democratic friends to help your poor defeated Republican a** out in these dark economic times brought on by George W. Bush and friends.

Signed,

Your Proud Democratic Employee!

Doug D.

Trust me that's EXACTLY what I would do, then I would call my friends in Congressman Grayson's, Kosmas's, Meek's, and Brown's offices and call my friend at Senator Nelson's office and call my friends in the state legislature to let them know to be sure and "help out" my Republican boss who screwed me over any chance they get.

Edited on Fri Nov-14-08 07:06 PM by Sophree
Call me cynical, but it seems too ridiculous to be real.

But, if it's for real- your CFO is the first one who needs to go- anyone who can't spell "through" properly, or uses such illogical reasoning in deciding whom to fire, should not be counted on to provide ANY company with sound financial advice.

Plus, that would probably save your company more money than laying off, say 3 or 4 employees. There! Problem half-solved. And I don't even have a business or finance degree!

My uncle sent me one of those wing-nut hoax e-mails- something about soldiers bowing their heads (in a picture that was so obviously photoshopped) in prayer and not being allowed to pray- blaming the ACLU.

I debunked it by looking up the person they actually named as an ACLU employee on the ACLU's website(fake person) and by doing a simple Lexis-Nexis search. I "replied to all," too. It was fun.

My uncle never sent me one of those astro-turf e-mails again. lol

on edit - that would be Lexis-Nexis.

21. The email may be a hoax but this memo isn't (PIC)
The CEO of my then-company sent it to the whole office back in November of '92. I thought it was outrageously inappropriate so I filed it away.

As you can see, it follows the same logic and contains the same kind of threats as the Obama e-mail.

Now, everyone in my department knew I was voting for Clinton because I was going out of town on business the week of Election Day, and I dragged three colleagues to City Hall to file our absentee votes.

Then we went on our trip and produced a bunch of award-winning, profit-boosting work.

Yet four months later, despite being the senior person on the project and the one who originally created it, I was laid off. The three who accompanied me were not. I guess it was to punish me for being the instigator.

Friends and colleagues urged me to sue the company but shoot, I've had better reasons than that, and I learned early on that a lawsuit is the fastest way to get blacklisted in the industry. I was happy to move on, and I entered a very productive and rewarding period as a result.

The company that let me go? They shut down. In 2005. Under Bush! BWAAHAHAHAHA!

Fucking idiots.

So yeah, companies do and think things as stupid as the OP's e-mail suggests.

32. Employment at will =/= right to work.
Right to work (more properly known as "right to starve" or "right to scab") means your employer cannot make you join a union as a condition of employment.

Employment at will means you can get fired for anything at any time.

Some states are right to scab states. All states are employment at will states.

39. I beg to differ
In a Right to Work State, it is true that an employer can fire an employee without giving him a reason, but if they do give a reason, it better be substantiated.

Firing someone based on their opinion or who they voted for is against the law in any State.

40. I one was this IT guy
I was fired as part of a big layoff and they thought that the junior guy under me, who was the best friend of the boss' wife's cousin, could do the job.

I warned them for one entire hour while resisting my layoff (you have the right to request a meeting to resist your layoff, in case you did not know, and this can last up to the point where you run out of arguments, or they call security), that he was not up to snuff and actually was a total ignorant asshole.

It took them two months to realize their mistake but it was too late: I had found a better job.

I also left my last job after telling them I needed more money, that I had a better offer and that they'd better increase my salary due to increased responsabilities and workload, and then I left.

Then they realized, again, that there were not too many good programmers available out there, and dropped the project (and are now looking to outsource at a cost higher than keeping me).

Good IT guys often get canned because, as they're good, people don't realize that they are actually needed. IT guys who do their job well don't get fair credit.
