OOPS: NASA Ground Team Screws Up Live on NASA TV! |
Think YOU screwed up a work one time? Well guess what I just heard on NASA TV?
They left a door unsecured on the launch pad white room that will get ripped to shreds when the shuttle launches. It just went across the NASA TV main loop and the Flight Controller in charge had them take it to an offline loop to discuss. There 16 min left in the T-9 hold and this will cause the launch to get scrubbed. NOT a cheap screw up to have to recycle the launch again for another day...

15. They are still deciding whether they are go or no go. |
They went around the room - one desk came back with no go - all others said go.
Keep watching it might still launch. SPE (people in charge of the door) said no go, but now they are deciding to go for the launch and take one for the team with some pad damage in the white room. Someone's gonna get fired and not for voting for Obama!
They are still talking it through though.

5. The door is mostly fabric, it won't scrub the launch. |
But you can be sure someone is in trouble.

6. I have it streaming on another computer |
and heard some dialog but had the sound down low so missed it. There's been mostly no dialog now. That's not good. There's a cold front coming through tomorrow so I would wonder how the weather would be down there if they scrubbed until tomorrow?

13. They are giving a "Go" on NASA now |
but I thought I heard one "no go". If there is any chance something can damage the space shuttle I vote NO.

14. May have to deal with some damage but willing to go |
I'm guessing damage to the door as opposed to the shuttle.

20. They are saying the door will be blocked from impacting orbiter |
The door will get shredded but if something DOES hit the orbiter it is much more fragile than you think.

16. No it's still go for launch... |
They are just going to leave it flap around. But some are still worried about debre hazard. The THINK it is OK, go for launch.

22. It's the room at the end of the end of the bridge across from the tower |
to the door of the shuttle. It's where you see them closing the door to the space craft on TV.

25. Use it when they get on board, it's like a hall way. |
Astronauts use a "white room" when they get on board a space shuttle. Here's what happens to the "white room" after launch. From www.captainjon.com
