5. Okay. Thanks. I'm trying to decide whether to go to the one in Philly.
This is something that I really support, but honestly the antics of several posters on DU have turned me off to vocalizing my support.

But I'm thinking of two friends in particular and, goddamn it, they deserve the same opportunities as I've been granted. I know of what they envision for their future and it breaks my heart how that future hangs in the balance right now. Ironically, one of them is a Republican so when I think of this protest I'm thinking about fighting for rights that he's not willing to fight for himself. What a crazy world.

8. Go. I'm going to the one in Phoenix.
Don't let the behavior of people here stop you. This isn't the real world. The more people who show up at the protests the more it demonstrates that LGBT people and their straight supporters are a force to be reckoned with.

6. we need other protests ideas too
For instance, symbolic items of solidarity.

What about purple wristbands? We could wear them till GLBTs get full rights of citizenship. Purple metallic ribbons on cars. Purple ribbons around trees. Purple ribbon tied to the car antenna. These symbols need to be publicized so people will know it when they see it.

I'm saying this because not everyone can protest. I've got medical problems; I can't be out in the sun for hours. But I can wear a purple wristband, tie purple ribbons, etc..

13. Well, until yesterday when something canceled, I did not have the time...
...and today, I do not have the stamina! I am having a bad time today physically.

Please someone give a shout out for me, OK? I wish to hell I could take the streets like I used to do in the 1960s. Those days are gone...<sigh>

MY HEART IS WITH ALL OF YOU WHO ARE STANDING UP FOR THE RIGHTS OF A MINORITY. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

15. Just got back from the Prop 8 Protest in Raleigh, NC. 1,400 strong and marched in pouring rain!
Event organizers spoke as did lesbian couple married in California in September, pastor who was forced to relinquish his authority due to performing gay/lesbian commitment ceremonies, gay candidate who lost in Democratic primary this year to now governor-elect Beverly Purdue. It was really moving and inspirational.

17. I was there too
It was great. One error though. Neal ran against Hagan not Purdue. BTW I was in the ACLU shirt with a pride flag motif. No sign. Wonder if we saw each other.

Edited on Sat Nov-15-08 06:30 PM by proud patriot
I just got back from an Equality rally in Walnut Creek about 500 that I could see
at it's peak . It was a beautiful day for a protest at 85 degrees
in November .

The indymedia sites have pictures . A bunch of people liked my
sign the 14th amendment on one side and "I'm a straight wife and mother
who wants equal rights for all, Not a Narrow Bigot" on the
other side . They took my picture and thanked me There were
a lot of straights there also lots of families .
