1. I thought he was invited but declined? |
|
It's hard to tell from the way the talking heads talk on tv. Maybe someone with more specifics will tell us.

3. That's what I heard as well. |

He has continually said - "One President at a time". I would think such a summit under an Obama Presidency would have an entirely different tone and goal.

2. I believe Obama was invited but chose to send representatives instead. |
|
It is consistent with his message of one President at a time. Bush is in charge of this summit. Obama's people will give him an overview of what was discussed and if there was anything beneficial from it.

4. Obama did not think it was appropriate - one president at a time |
|
However, he sent a bipartisan (one republican and one democrat) to attend and give him feedback.

6. I disagree. Obama was correct to stay away, and Bush was correct not to push it. |
|
There's no telling what the next couple of months might bring; and those leaders need to know/understand that Bush is still the president and the one who will get credit or blame for any stupid shit this government does.
When Obama is in the last couple of months of his presidency, I wouldn't want the new president-elect to start throwing his weight around and pushing Obama out of the way.
I can't stand Bush and wish Obama could take the oath today. But that's not possible, so we (and the rest of the world) are stuck with Bush until 1/20/09.

8. Bad for Obama to get accountability without authority |
|
That would set him up to get sandbagged by Bush on his way out.
