Begich lead over Stevens grows

<snip>MARGIN IS 1,022 VOTES: With 24,000 ballots left, no one's getting excited.<snip>

<snip>The Stevens campaign has long gone silent, and once again Friday wouldn't comment on the race. The campaign office in Midtown Anchorage was largely deserted. The giant wall photos of Stevens were gone. So were the rows of campaign signs. All that remained was a pair of volunteers packing boxes.<snip>

2. This is excellent. Alaska & Alaskans are looking better & better...

Just like Ohioans, Indianains (?) Nebraskans, North Carolinians, Virginians and all the rest of those great voters in those great states that helped give us Obama.

This Ohioan just can't stop smiling! Now watching Alaska, can't wait for another Democratic Senator to be announced.

4. Yeah, we're not ALL dumbasses.
:)

Another important thing about this election is that the Dems and Republicans are tied in our state senate where the a majority coalition of 10 Democrats and 3 Republicans has been formed. The House is now 22 Republicans, 18 Democrats, but one of the Republicans from Fairbanks is ahead by only 1 vote at this point. With some absentee ballots still out, we could pick up another seat.

This kind of even split was unheard of in years past. We're making progress here, slowly but surely. I'm happy about the makeup of the legislature because it makes it more likely that Sarah will be investigated.

5. Hopefully, a few years under an Obama administration will further tip the balance towards Democrats.
Looks like Palin won't get a chance to finagle a way to be Senator, eh? I hope President Obama travels to Alaska to campaign
for whoever challenges Palin for the governor's seat next time around. Tony Knowles is a good man but unfortunately, he
seems humorless and from the little I've seen/heard of him, he has no charisma.

6. I've heard some rumors here and there
about possible Democratic contenders in 2010 although nothing firm yet. We do have some promising possibilities, though.

There was some speculation here that Tony was on the short list for Department of the Interior head, but I haven't heard anything firm.

12. Ethan should run against her and use it to try against Don again,
that is if Don isn't in jail by then. :) I'm so old, I can remember when Alaska was blue.
