Laura Bush=Carmela Soprano? Your thoughts?
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 05:52 AM by lib_wit_it
Edit: I realize this is in the wrong forum, but I don't know how to change that. DU is way bigger and complicated than I realized when I was just reading, before joining.

1. I would agree with you on that.
Laura has certainly enjoyed the lifestyle that Bush's riches have provided.

Carmela occasionally felt and expressed anxiety and guilt over how her husband earned his money. Do you think Laura ever did that? I don't know.

13.  I don't think she does agonize. She strikes me as one of those
creatures who think that if they're part of something, it's A-OK. When she sold drugs--hey, drug dealers were cool! When she killed with her car--hey, she didn't mean to, so, that was cool. She lives in a big fancy house with servants and body guards and every imaginable creature comfort by "virtue" of her husband and his friends' Anti-American, Anti-World, cruel and criminal acts, and well, she's a good Christian gal, so, hey, that's cool.

I also have always deeply resented her for the way she pretended to know shit about public education when she'd only worked, what, a year as a librarian? Sorry, librarians--I love ya, but(in my experience and from what my librarian friends have told me) your job is a breeze compared to that of the classroom teacher.

And I'd bet Laura's brief stint wasn't in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area. I worked in the fucking trenches at an inner city school, and it always infuriated me how she didn't strangle her husband rather than let him nuke the public school system with "No Child Left Behind."

2. I think Carmella is much stronger than Laura...
...emotionally. Of course, they're both enablers, but Carmella seems to be so to further her own agenda, where Laura seems to have lost her own identity altogether...

3. uh, no. I like Laura Bush. She's innocuous and she has a certain dignity
about her. Her taste in men, however, is just as atrocious as Carmela's.

4. Carmela wasn't a chain smoker. Laura is.
But they both exercised their elbows.

5. Not even close. laura is a charter member of the prosac nation...
that would actually like to divorce her husband, not have him "knocked off".

And you're right this is a lounge thread.

8. Or maybe General Discussion forum.
Certainly enabling. Laura has the advantage of seeing how the Bushes pay hush money to the daughters-in-law when they divorce their creepy husbands. My guess is that Laura will be kept happy until another Mr. Right comes along and she wants to bail on W.

14. No? Hmm. Remember this line, "My husband is not a vengeful man!"? I think both LB & CS are moronic
women married to very dangerous men. But, at least Carmella did have a clue that Tone was a criminal. I'm not sure Laura has even figured that out. As I mentioned, if she's a part of it, it must be A-OK.

10. They're both married to criminals, but Carmella has more of an edge
to her personality. Both women look the other way and turn a blind eye as their husbands commit unimaginable crimes, although I think their motives are different.

11. Carmela is class, Laura is an ass
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 01:27 PM by Joe Bacon
To even try to equate the 2 is just so wrong!

Besides, Laura DID kill her boyfriend in cold blood and get away with it...

Chimp is a flunkie so Laura can't be the bossman's wife.
