8. Repugs simply don't get it. They have convinced themselves that this is a "center-right" nation
They think that Americans agree with THEIR so-called conservative principles. And they are pushing this Jindal character, but he is even more extreme than Sarah Palin. And Newt Gingrich? Why is he still around? And why are the Rethugs hellbent on moving us back to the 80's and 90's. Most people don't remember these clowns. But as long as the Republicans continue to move to the right, the more they will be rejected. They simply don't understand that this country has never been conservative or 'center-right.' It's simply not true. What they have done is turned 'conservative' is to something good and morally virtuous and 'liberal' into something bad and morally corrupt. What we liberals have to do is take back that word. Own it! There is nothing amoral about being a liberal. If we don't do something about that narrative, we could end up losing everything we've gained and worked hard for.

11. Maybe so. But they're the flip side of Kennedy & Obama.
The 20th Century of one party, with the 21st Century of the party. One pair is on the right, one is on the left.

Jindal is the REAL silent star of the GOP. Most people are watching the glittery spectacle of the Palin trick; the magician does that so the public doesn't see the REAL star emerging. It's Jindal.

He ran far to the right to become the first non-white elected governor in Louisiana. But he had to. He will run for the presidency in the future, and it'll be interesting to see if he goes more toward the center for that.

13. Bobby Jindal speaking reminds me of a pawnshop chipmunk.
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 11:55 AM by Old Crusoe
There's a persistent exchange of some kind going on over neglible goods that motivates his words and thinking, but it has the effect of a cartoon chipmunk's chattering.

A lot of fuss and both over a second-hand clarinette.

16. Jindal can never get elected
Edited on Sun Nov-16-08 12:55 PM by galaxy21
Not because he's a minority, but his views are pretty out there even for repubs. He doesn't believe in abortion under any cicumstances whatsoever .Yeah, the women of American are going to love that. Being forced to have a child even though it'll almost certainly kill you.

The exorcist thing doesn't help.

I think the republicans will go with a far right nominee in 2012, lose in a landslide, and then, maybe, just maybe, they'll start to wonder if they should move back to the centre.

17. Jindal is a bit Extreme
Even by Republican standards. Doesn't believe in abortions at all, has tried to stop movement over state lines for abortions, supports capital punishment, is against gay rights and affirmative action. Way the hell off to the right, then.

20. What a couple of people have said above:
I no longer worry about Jindal as a Serious Candidate. His views are too extreme, most especially on abortion. No abortions in ANY case whatsoever. None. Not incest, not rape, not the health or life of the mother, nuthin'. So if an 11 year old is pregnant by her granddad through rape and she'll die if she carries the baby to term, oh well!

I know exactly ONE person who would agree with that, and she's considered wacked by even her "pro-life" friends.
