In light of the worst Repub Election Disaster in Decades, the Repub short answer is: MOVE FURTHER TO THE RIGHT. Yep, I hope they continue on that path --it will take more than 40 years of wandering in the wilderness.

I've been hearing a lot of grumbling from moderate Republicans.......they arent happy with the fundies trying to seize complete control of the party.

IMHO the Repugs lost......well.....they would've probably lost no matter who ran or what they ran on this year. Regardless of how close they were to Bush or much they supported him (although nearly all Repugs marched in lockstop with him during his Presidency) Bush was an albatross who was irrevocably chained (welded?) to the necks of just about EVERY SINGLE Repug out there and probably would've brought ANY one of them down with him. For the most part the only real question was by what margin would they lose. Pretty much the only ways that a Repug could've actually won this year would have been for a massive Obama campaign-killing scandal or the Repugs getting away with Grand Theft Election.

That being said it is clear to me that one of the big reasons that McCain lost (aside from his disastrous VP pick whose name I shall not repeat) is that he wasn't acting like the "maverick" that he repeatedly claimed that he was and he ran a campaign that embraced hard-right positions on just about everything even though McCain appeared to have felt differently about many of those issues in the past. Unfortunately for him, his strategy of running hard-right coupled with his VP pick ended up costing him crucial moderates and independents he needed to win and ended up even costing him a lot of support among the (non-crazy) Repugs, mostly over his VP pick.

If the Repugs want to insist that they didn't win because they weren't "conservative" enough, well, they are more than welcome to their delusions and can feel free to look to even more radical candidates (i.e. McCain's VP pick) for future elections but there is no way that I can see them being successful. But hey, it's not like there is any law saying that we have to stop them from destroying themselves.

This is really great news. I only hope that I live to see two major parties in the USA. One would be the Dems, and the other would be to the left of the Dems. Either green or conservationists, or any name you can think of. As long as neither is republican, I'll be happy.
