A friend suggests Don Siegelman for Attorney General.
And perhaps the media could ring up Karl Rove for his comment.

1. Oh that would be fun
I'd love to see the GOP go into convulsions over that. I don't know much about Siegelman's qualifications for the role but for the entertainment value it couldn't be beat.

2. They'd be running naked down the boulevard screaming
"Socialism!"

Siegelman is a fairly middle-of-the-road Democrat ideologically but has a bedrock decency to him that's inarguable. No wonder Rove wanted him out of the picture.

7. He was Alabama's attorney general before being governor
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 01:24 AM by starroute
When I googled just now on Siegelman plus "attorney general" to double-check it, the Wikipedia article came up first -- but this current thread came up as the 4th result. I guess somebody is paying attention.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Siegelman

He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1968, and from Georgetown University Law Center, and studied international law at the University of Oxford. While at the University of Alabama, Siegelman served as the President of the Student Government Association and member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. While in law school at Georgetown, Siegelman met his expenses by working as an officer in the United States Capitol Police. Prior to becoming Governor in 1999, he had served as Lieutenant Governor from 1995 to 1999, state Attorney General from 1987 to 1991, and Secretary of State from 1979 to 1987.

5. It would be darned interesting, wouldn't it, to have a deep-bones authentic
Southerner to survive Nixon's "Southern strategy" and go on to prosecute Alberto Gonzales and all the people who collaborated with him to do in innocent people.

I don't think motivation would be a problem.

8. Be a stupid move and not worth the fight
Get his conviction overturned first which of course should be a priority for an Obama Justice Dept.

But AG nomination. Give me a break! Obama and his advisers wouldn't even dream of this PR stunt!

9. In true regime change, prisoners and government officials trade places
Often works like that all over the world, right?

Why not here?

10. Interesting point. The irony of a victim breaking the chains of
injustice that imprisoned him to rise to assert justice against his transgressors is a real kick in the pants.

I'm not at all convinced this will happen but at the very least I want Siegelman's name cleared.
