Somehow, that's the only thing that explains the way that campaign was run, as far as I can see.

4. well, saurove didn't have the
'man-crush' on mclame that he had/has on *.

"...As special assistant, Rove also performed small personal tasks for Bush. In November 1973, Bush asked Rove to take a set of car keys to his son George W. Bush, who was visiting home during a break from Harvard Business School. It was the first time the two met. "Huge amounts of charisma, swagger, cowboy boots, flight jacket, wonderful smile, just charisma - you know, wow", Rove recalled years later....." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Rove

so I guess his 'heart' just wasn't in it.

5. I've always been suspicious of that. Make sure Obama wins this time,
leave him holding the bag on all the disastrous stuff that's come to pass since Jr.'s been in office. Then, have the Republicans come roaring back in 2012 after Obama's supposedly had no luck turning things around in an incredibly difficult climate to turn things around. I do believe that would be how Rove would plan things. I do think he's underestimating Obama however.

6. The nail in the coffin for mcPOW was when chimpy said,
"The economy is on the brink of collapse". Really, that did. It is as if he was very intentionally sinking his campaign.

7. I've thought that for months now.
McCain is not part of the GOP Machine -- I think that, once he got the nod, it was decided by the powers that be it would be better to lose this one and come back in 2012, with a Machine candidate. I think the Sarah Palin nom was the stake they hoped would do the trick -- which it did.

9. No.
McCain's campaign was run by a bunch of people who gave him contradictory advice, ran contradictory messages, and they just generally antagonized the shit out of each other. They destroyed themselves--and it didn't help that they were up against the Obama juggernaut, which was one of the best-run campaigns in modern history (although it really helped that they had a pretty swell guy as the candidate).

10. Yes. B/c if the Republicans were in the Whitehouse when the rest of the
bust happens, I think even they know they would be out of power for at least a generation.
