Just a brief message to Obama-hating Catholic Church 'leaders' from a lapsed Catholic. |
|
When you get your own rotten, vile, execrable house in order then you can talk to me - until then: Go fuck yourselves.
That's it - feel better now.

2. I thought the exact same thing. To use such inflammatory language - |
|
and stand on a pedestal spewing it - disgusting.
I'm lapsed also; from a long time ago when I was told the hoops I'd have to jump through and the money I'd have to pay to get an annullment. As if I was going to divulge my sexual history to a 'committee' of perverted old priests.

3. You know the Catholic Church is suppose to be spreading the word of Christ |
|
yet Jesus had nothing to say about abortions, even though they were happening in his time. So instead of preaching the word of Christ, they decided to teach their own views on morality. Apparantly they think their views are better and more important than Christ's.
Funny thing, the Bible doesn't codemn abortion in any way shape for form. This is all part of the Church's effort to pump up their membership.

4. I'm still looking for a link. |

Haven't heard what they said, but I'm sure my pseudo-fundie relatives will use this as an excuse to continue the hatred campaign.

7. Another lapsed Catholic here -- couldn't take the disconnect from reality |
|
The Catholic hierarchy is in its own little bubble universe and has been for some time:
1960's. My mother -- aged 43 and mother of five, was told by her doctor she needed a hysterectomy for health reasons. For some reason Mom went to her parish priest for his blessing, and was told that getting a hysterectomy was out of the question because she just might be able to get pregnant again. She got the hysterectomy.
1970's. Women start pursuing a larger role in the Church and are told Jesus wasn't a woman, ergo women couldn't be priests.
On a personal note, we had two friends in college who had been living together who finally decided to get married in the Church. The parish priest refused to marry them because they had been living together.
2000's. Multiple stories of priests as pedophiles break in the news, along with the extraordinary measures taken by their higher ups to cover this up. The label "pedophile" is used interchangeably in the media with "homosexual", thus laying the groundwork for public outrage against homosexuals in general.
Meanwhile, priests and bishops like this one run around with their holier-than-thou ignorant BS, ranting against good men like Kerry and now Obama. I know there are many, many decent priests and Catholics, but unfortunately they don't have a voice in what the Catholic hierarchy spews forth. It's really too bad.

8. I guess I'm still considered catholic but definitely not practicing....I look at my |
|
son whose 21 now and how great he's doing and think about that freak of a priest who wouldn't marry my husband and I because I was pregnant and had SINNED AGAINST GOD. What the fuck? I was so upset..basically made me feel my child was spawn of the devil. Went to the methodist church...the pastor married us and kept in touch to see if we needed anything.

Mainstream Catholics are a more tolerant lot. Obama used to do charitable work for the Catholic Church.
These right-wing reactionaries need to be shown the port of exit.
Go back to the Vatican and hang out with your buddy Ratzinger.

11. At age 12, I was told by a priest in a catholic school classroom |
|
that I would surely go to hell and that I should not consider myself a catholic. I said "OK." and have not considered myself one since.
Even the good people among them are crazy, and the evil ones are repugnant.
I agree with the OP - Go fuck yourselves.

I'd really like to know. The Pope was clear about that issue too.
