I have not seen a single statement by the Obama Team or the Clinton's
About the status of any possible appointment.

Can someone clear this up for me. Otherwise, everything being discussed by the MSM is just unconfirmed rumors. And I believe it is being done for one reason: ratings.

The Republicans are certainly (along with some Democrats who are not happy about an Obama presidency) going to try to divide us, the people, as well as the Democratic party.

Does this really need to be said here? I'm sorry to say that it does, because far too many people here are falling for it.

2. I agree...won't believe anything until it happens. I think there
are too many groups with various motives for pushing this stuff.

3. And once again, Obama was airtight on 60 Minutes last night
All he said was "Soon" to any cabinet announcments; he wouldn't even commit to next week.

Any timing the MSM tries to put out there is coming out of their collective ass.

4. Ratings, yes.
Divisions, I am not sure that is a motive. If "divisions" are attempted, they will surely fail. The party is unified, and will be working with an Obama Administration, whoever is in it.

6. I haven't either. All of this speculation by the media is ridiculous.
I refuse to get worked up over any of it until there's an official statement.

7. I am giving Team Obama AND Clinton the benefit of the doubt and blaming this on Mediawhores
and careless low level staffers.

8. The NYT clarified the whole thing...
http://www.jedreport.com/2008/11/the-vetting-of-bill-clinton.html

WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama's advisers have begun reviewing former President Bill Clinton's finances and activities to see whether they would preclude the appointment of his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, as secretary of state, Democrats close to the situation said Sunday.

The examination of the former president suggests how seriously Mr. Obama is considering bringing his onetime rival for the Democratic presidential nomination into his cabinet.

The two most bizarre sentences in the article have nothing to do with Bill, however. First, we have:

He met with Mrs. Clinton in Chicago on Thursday to talk about the prospect and word quickly filtered out.

And then second:

Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton have kept their conversations tightly held, but that silence has only convinced some associates that the prospect is serious.

Hmmm. Obama met with Clinton and word quickly filtered out, but they have both kept their conversations tightly held? Something doesn't compute.

9. It shouldn't have to be said here. We should assume that both
P-E Obama and Sen. Clinton are mature, professional public servants who are handling their responsibilities accordingly. They're doing what they're doing. And we have NO idea what that is. We don't know what they're thinking or feeling, either.

We do know that the media HAS to sell something to get advertisers. Right now they're selling drama. For every person here it should be a real snoozefest.

12. Many people seem to pick and choose what to belief
If it's someone who doesn't like Hillary, they believe the rumor that the Clinton team is being difficult with the vetting process but call the idea that Hillary was basically given the SOS job "just speculation." Many people who like Hillary believe the opposite. Like you said, there are no offical statements so pretty much EVERYTHING is rumors. We'll just have to wait and see who Obama picks.

13. Obama is doing what every Prez elect has done. He is "controlling leaks".
Edited on Mon Nov-17-08 04:10 PM by saracat
He is going to pick HRC as SOS. But he is floating it first. Transition is NOT the same as a campaign where leaks are not desirable. Anyone who knows anything about DC knows it is run by "calculated leaks".

14. That's my opinion too. The media hypes these rumors because it increases their viewers.
They've used this method so many times that it is a little disconcerting to see so many people getting sucked into it.
