Right-wing crybaby pens pathetic LTTE to Columbus Dispatch.
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 07:26 AM by mwb970
I find that I can scan the letters to the editor in the Dispatch and immediately identify the correspondents who are in thrall to Fox "News" and right-wing hate radio. Here's an especially pathetic such letter that appeared today:

Election has ruined spirit of Christmas
(Columbus Dispatch, November 18, 2008)

For the first time in 55 years, I won't be celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas. Why? Because President-elect Barack Obama said we need a change.

No turkey dinner, no Christmas cards, no checks to the grandkids and no decorating. My heart is not in it since I am so disappointed that so many people looked right past the odd people that Obama associated with and his views on abortion. We will have to wait and see how his many promises are carried out.

And to the people who want handouts and for the government to take care of them, I say do as I did 31 years ago when I lost my union job: I had to go take another one that paid me $4 less per hour. Plus, we had just bought a new house and the payments were almost double what we had been paying. Working is how you succeed, even if it is at JCPenney or McDonald's.

MARGIE COLLINSWORTH
Columbus

Poor, poor widdle Margie. The rotten DemonRATS and their damned landslide victory have stolen the joy of Thanksgiving and Christmas from her. No turkey for widdle Margie! No checks for the grandkids!

Boo. Frackin'. Hoo. Get a life! Moran.

:nopity:

and McDonald isn't hiring. But I guess she can pretend there are still jobs to be had. But does she really think a McJob is going to pay the mortgage? It's probably easier to complain about losing the election then to have to face another Republicon Great economic crisis.

4. I got no sympathy in my "Body Snatchers" style fear &sorrow
from the last two sham elections.

Unfortunately I am not wired to get joy from Margie's distress. I do not believe she will be able to give up turkey day, black friday, or xmas because the cultural pull and marginalization-of-non-participants is too great. So I would call her a liar to her face, and hope she doesn't know anyone who gets that one illness or injury that bankrupts the suckers.

Get over it Margie. Nice try at getting out of cooking this one time!

Get teabagged, Marge. McCain would have sent this country on a rocket ride to hell . . . not that it's not going there anyway, thanks to 28 years of Republican/Laissez-FAIL/CEO rule. Obama is putting on the brakes, dealing out much-needed common sense and all of us will be much better off for it. Even your grumpy old ass.

And goddamnit, STOP WITH THE ABORTION BULLSHIT ALREADY!!!! THE ABORTION WEDGE ISSUE HAS NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO DO WITH GOVERNING A COUNTRY!!! NONE!!! ZERO!!! ZIP!!! ZILCH!!! Unbelievable.

10. Ah, But Minimum Wage...
saying to get a job at JCPenney or McDonalds ignores several facts. Of course, one previously mentioned is that even these places aren't hiring. The other is that minimum wage in real dollars has declined significantly in the past 30 odd years. There was a ten year period in which there was no increase in the minimum wage and if the "evil" Democrats hadn't taken control of Congress in 2006, we still wouldn't have had one since 1997.

Also, housing costs have increased. Part of this is tougher government standards (for example, in Florida trying to build homes better able to withstand hurricanes). Another part of it is that houses are bigger now. That's just greed. Our own desire for bigger houses is fed by the building industry. The larger houses are more profitable, so they build more of those.

12. And our state Libertarian leader wants to cut min. wage in half
http://www.lpwi.org/pws/index.php?module=article&view=58

Cutting the minimum wage in half would allow many young, minority and displaced workers to survive. Libertarians say that, if people are willing to contract to work for less than the mandated minimum wage and employers are willing to hire them, the State should not interfere. Senator Russ Decker, Majority Leader, has promised a bill to increase the state minimum wage.

Their leader in Wisconsin belongs to the same UU church as I do and he works a union job, so explain to me why is it that people always go after the underdog? Why do they never call for the CEO's to go back to there 26 times their employees wage instead of the current 500 times their employees wage as it stands now.

http://www.kyklosproductions.com/articles/wages.html

The growth in CEO compensation has been unstoppable, and is accelerating faster every year. In 1965, CEO pay was 26 times that of their average worker. In 1980, as noted, 40 times. In 1989, it was 72 times. In 1999 it had risen to 310 times, and today, as per the above data from the accounting firm, Towers Perrin, survey it has reached 500 times.

35. OK - Do Away With The MInimum Wage
Why not do away with the minimum wage and replace it with a provision that the highest paid employee or executive cannot receive more compensation than 50 times the lowest paid?

13. LOL I play piano for our office Choir. We do a Christmas Program
every year for the Salvation Army. One of the songs I'm having the choir do this year is "You'll Never Walk Alone", a beautiful, very inspirational song. One of the repugs in the choir started whining right away, "is this a Christmas Song"?, "I object to doing this song". I wanted to say so bad in front of everyone, "whatsa matter, lost the election did we?" I didn't have to though. The choir beat him up. LOL If there had been stones laying around, they would have stoned him. ha ha. Needless to say, yesterday, he didn't show up for choir rehearsal. Repugs are so ugly right now.

17. Okay, let's break this down
Obama calls for change--so did McCain (remember? "Change is coming"). Odd people he associated with and his views on abortion--shall we bring up some of the RW wackos and lobbyists that McCain works with to this very day, never mind what they did 40 years ago? And the fact that abortion is not an executive issue...
Handouts? What you talkin' about, Margie? Like the amount of federal money that flows into Alaska, so they don't have either sales or income tax (Ohio has both and Columbus has its own income tax)? I'm in my 50's, too, and 31 years ago, I wasn't making much more than $4 an hour--working at JCPenney, at that; you must have been doing well in the midst of the '70's recession. That you bought a new house at the same time you were losing your job should mean you'd have some sympathy for others in that same situation now...must be one of those "non-compassionate" conservatives.

I guess she has nothing to be thankful for this year and is taking it out on her grandkids. Nice lady :eyes:

25. The writer of that letter appears to have a cause-and-effect problem.
Barack Obama won the election a couple of weeks ago and since then, she's so bummed out she isn't going to celebrate Thanksgiving.

There are many people all over the place who are not going to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, and it has very little to do with the election of Barack Obama and quite a bit indeed to do with their being among the homeless and the hungry. Perhaps this letter-writier to the DISPATCH should stop her yapping and volunteer at the Salvation Army in Columbus to ring a bell in front of a grocery store to raise a buck or two for people who have a good deal less than she does.

32. I feel sad for Margie. She has one issue that she votes on, but
fails to see that when the GOP had complete power, they did nothing about abortion, except bring it up every election cycle.

But my sadness goes a bit deeper than that, almost all the way to pity, for I see that she will deny not just herself a little happiness, but will also deny her G'Children a little happiness, and most likely a lot of love over the Holiday Season. Her self-centered approach to the Holidays shows me she is a poor embittered creature that would deny even a sliver of hope to those whom she believes she loves.

It grieves me to see such defeatism, but it bothers me far more that Margie can only see one issue, an
issue that has nothing to do with governing a country, nothing to do with this individual and nothing to do with the country as a whole. McCain would/could do nothing about abortion, except perhaps make it something done in back alleys where women would die in squalor, alone and miserable.

Margie is one that will refuse happiness and hope to not just herself, but all of those around her as well...sad indeed.

I am very disappointed that John and Sarah didn’t win. Sarah had a lot of negative things said about her but we all know it was just people voting for Obama saying those things. If Obama hadn’t gotten so much favorable press he would not have won this election. I say to Sarah , try again in four years. margie collinsworth

It's Margie's comment on this Palin interview with Greta Van Susteren. (Excerpt: "QUESTION: How are you feeling? A: Feelin’ great, feelin’ great.")
