Why do people let the Clintons have so much power over them?
When I say people, I'm not talking about people high up in politics. I'm talking about the average person on the street, the people on DU, the people who have never had the pleasure (or displeasure) of meeting or knowing any Clinton personally.

It seems like the moment someone says the C-word, people go rabid. It's rather scary.

It seems like everyone either hates them or loves them, and it's such an extreme on both sides.

...

If you don't like the Clintons, don't give them power over you by reacting so strongly when they are mentioned. Ignore them. The reason they are in the press so much is that the media knows people seem to care what they do.

If you do like the Clintons, trust them that they will do whatever they can to make our country better -- if you don't think they will, I have no idea why you like them so much. Hillary is a big girl, she can protect herself. Bill isn't such a weakling either.

...

And if you voted for Barack Obama, you showed that you trust him to make the right decisions about how he will run his administration. Let him make the decisions you entrusted to him.

2. The Clintons do generate extremes of emotion

I wonder why that is, but I know it's true. I'd be interested in theories as to why...

3. Your last paragraph describes where I am at.
I'm going to sit back and watch what he does.

So far, I like most of what I see.

After 8 years of hell I am looking ahead with a bit a hope.

Obama is a very smart man and I think he will surround himself with other very smart people.

4. The same is true for Obama
Any effective political leader, good or bad, has admirers and detractors. The Clintons, like Obama, are very effective political leaders, so much of the right wing can't stand them. As far as liberal disliking Hillary, I think it's unconscious sexism on their part. There's no other sensible explanation for the intensity of their dislike.

5. It's such an extreme on BOTH sides because the Clintons are polarizing figures...
They evoke strong opinions on BOTH sides.
