I wanted revenge on Lieberman badly.
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 02:26 PM by Occam Bandage
He pissed me off more than any Republican has in the last few years. I reminded myself throughout this campaign that the Dems were only putting up with him because they wanted to keep control of the Senate, and that as soon as we had 52 Senators Lieberman would be out on his ass. I wanted to see him humiliated. I wanted to see him ruined. I wanted to see him crushed, driven before us, and to hear the lamentations of his women. Instead, the douchebag gets to keep his seat.

Damn.

It would have been very satisfying indeed to see that worm crushed in Fist O' Justice he so richly deserves. It's difficult to remind yourself that politics isn't a game played for the satisfaction of the base; it's a game played to help the great mass of people who are have nothing to do with the political process. As much as keeping Joe a functional member of the sausage factory might disgust me, I recognize that an extra vote just might be the difference between health care reform passing or failing, or between stem cell research passing or failing, or between a progressive SCOTUS nominee passing or failing, or between a progressive tax reform package passing or failing. And while restructuring tax rates doesn't have nearly the emotional pull that seeing Lieberman humiliated would, as far as the benefit to America as a whole? It isn't close.

It would be fun to run Congress in the vindictive, purist, jackbooted way the Republicans did. But Dems don't do that. For better and for worse, our priorities place common Americans above Washington squabbles. I suppose I can live with that.

5. Now, that would be retribution enough for me!
Lifting that droopy face into something unrecognizable! I'd vote for that.
Can they force him to get that done?

2. I definitely can
I'm not better than that, but it seems that the Senate Dems are.

Good for them.

4. "Revenge" is a strawman. It's not about "revenge" -it's about being loyal & being practical.
Just my opinion- but allowing Joe or any other Republican to maintain his chair is not practical and does not encourage DEM loyalty...

"Revenge" is not the reason that Republicans do not get to keep their chairs- DEMS won, and usually the winning Party gets to decide who keeps chairs & who doesnt- "revenge" need not even come into the picture...

7. How can it be "a strawman" when I'm talking about my own desires?

8. I'm sorry- I meant "revenge" as in the Pro-Lieberman talking point DC DEMS are pushing.

As in "We are not going to engage in bitter, partisan revenge like Bush did"- when caving to Lieberman is not really about "revenge" at all, one way or the other.

I thought you were using the talking point in the exact same context.

Not that I'm begging for an answer, but if "Bipartisanship" and avoiding "revenge" is really the issue, then why didn't we let other "qualified" Republicans keep their Senate positions as well?

Here is a hint- this is not about bipartisanship or avoiding the appearance of revenge.
