It's a good thing Barack Obama is our president-elect and not some of the others
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 03:31 PM by Blue_Roses
here who post off the top of their initial hot-head feelings--and I include myself in that.

For eight years--EIGHT, LONG YEARS--we've lived in hell with the stupid and irresponsible decisions of the Bush administration. Now we are like people who have been freed from captivity--hungry and MAD! It doesn't seem like it's enough to just smooth over the last eight years like they were one huge nightmare, but with each step our new president-elect makes lately, it would seem like that's the case--but not so. Have you forgotten that this man ran one of the most amazing presidential campaigns in our political history, not only to beat political powerhouse adversaries, but he went on to WIN the highest office in this nation! This in itself speaks volumes about this man's intelligence and remarkable knack for "getting it right."

While I seriously wanted to see Lieberman taken out to the wood-shed for a serious :spank: I'm starting to see the big picture in how Obama wants to lead us out of the wilderness. (some still want to stay around and pick firewood)

It's going to take time to make a seismic shift in this country, but that is only done with smart decisions that are yielded through caos--which would seem obvious at this time.

Many--from both parties--seem to be running around with their hair on fire from fear or frustration and as usual, the one who seems the calmest in this storm is Obama.

Good grief...he hasn't even taken the oath yet. Take a breath and chill people.

1. We won the White House, Congress, and a chance to appoint 3 - 6 SCOTUS Justices
and people are whining about a tired old fool keeping the chairmanship of a committee that is probably going to be reorganized anyway.

Some people don't know how to win.

2. Very true, we are our own worst enemy
I can't believe all the histrionics from supposed educated voters.

6. there in lies the rub...
"supposed educated voters"

now grant it...a lot of us are so full of "Bush fatigue" that we are knashing our teeth now, but after reading some of these posts today, I see mainly frustration at what they may perceive as more of the same. That's what's often called--brain-washed. Happens to people who are held in captivity

25. Just tell us why we should trust what's happening.
We had a right to expect that the rightward tacking would STOP once the votes were in. But it's still going on. WHY? Our party isn't on the defensive anymore. The right no longer has hegemony. Why SHOULDN'T it have been full-steam ahead? Why shouldn't we be seeing a bold agenda set, and set without apology?

I could understand this approach if Obama's electoral vote margin had been 270-268, but why hold back when we got a landslide?

History shows that Democratic administrations ONLY get to be progressive in the first two years. After that, the whole thing withers.
This is why so many of us are nervous about gradualism and "post-partisanship".

Enough freakin' "reassuring the centre-right" already. We don't need to appease them anymore.

3. my guess is...
Lieberman won't be in that spot long after Obama takes the oath--and it won't be because Obama asked him to step down. There's a new sheriff coming to town

5. I think this was Obama saying...
We all know what you did, and it was pretty disgusting. I'm going to turn the other cheek, but mind you, this is the only one I have left to offer, so don't blow it.

9. I see it as Lieberman
becoming so frustrated with the new foreign policy Obama will put forward that he'll resign out of anger.

12. That's part of it, but more, it's Obama not wanting to start off with criticisms of partisanship
ringing across the news. He cut the feet out from under the Republican media and all he gave up was one chair on one committee--to a man who votes with us 90% of the time, anyway. And who has no power without us.

And Lieberman knows where he stands. He's crafty, and he's not defenseless, but he also knows he has no power without the Democrats. There's only so much he can do. And if he tries to do more, once Obama takes office, then they can dump him without Obama taking a hit. And Lieberman knows this

Fair trade. Good politics. Obama's doing okay so far.

17. Me too...
But at least we recognize the ol' five steps ahead of the game routine.

Only Obama has Obama's perspective right now. I'm going to wait until the other 30+ appointments come in, and at least 100 days into the new administration before I call for the hatchet.

4. Amazing how a lot of people want him to go in and be a partisan asshole
Like Bush. I guess the change they wanted was for Obama to go in kicking ass and taking names and blowing the Pubbies out of the water, instead of going in and trying to make nice with everyone, which is exactly what he said he was going to do.

This is going to be a long four years unless we start paying attention to Obama instead of our own fantasies.

I logged on today after a five day break. That's the longest I've gone in the six years I've been coming to DU and it's because I want to try to get back into my life now that I feel we have a responsible leader grabbing the helm:D

18. As Matt Taibbi wrote in Rolling Stone from
his "Campaign Memories" article..

"Obama isn't interested in jacking up anybody's bloodlust--a new thing in modern American politics".

And that means joe fucking lie-berman, too.

22. Obama said that Lieberman was Senate business and he [Obama] was just not going to get involved in
that. Seems as though no one believes Obama on that one bc people are posting as though this was his directive, not the result of Reid and a secret vote.

*shrug*

23. So your willing to settle for timid-ass gradualism, even thought that always has to fail.
Great.

Why was it asking too much for the trimming to STOP after the election?
