What happened on DU? since the day after the election there has been one critical post about Obama |
|
after the other on these pages. Sometimes I feel like I accidentally wandered onto Freeperville.

1. More likely Freeperville wandered over here, since there's nothing to do there. |

I'm just surprised we waited until AFTER the election to do it and not DURING the election like we've done so well the past 8 years.

5. One of the things we Democrats like about democracy... |
|
is our freedom to have opinions about our political leaders. We are even allowed to disagree with what they do. We can even disagree with representatives from our own party. Even if we voted for them personally!
I realize that whole bit has been out of fashion for the last 8 years, but we should get back into practice!

9. Yeah, well. Most people wait until some decisions have been made before dissenting. |

Not at DU. It's all pre-emptive.

8. Folks have been wired for complaining after the last eight years |

Outrage is addictive, and Bush has created quite a few junkies.
A lot of people are also just setting themselves up to continue it. Every other person probably wanted (and even expected!) their own personal physical manifestation of their inner ideological purity, which guarantees they're going to be disappointed. As well, this place has gotten so incredibly polarized that quite a few people think anyone who disagrees with them simply must really be a conservative. (And to make things even worse, I hear Obama has fewer than one thousand posts here! Onoes! We all seem to know what that means!)
Basically, the goalposts for "progressive" and "conservative" are both sitting on wet ice right now, easily moved at the slightest provocation.

10. The Liberal base helped him gain the nomination and win the GE |
|
Theres nothing wrong in them expecting Obama to recognize their hard work and dedication by trying to keep him on the path towards the change away from the "politics of old" he campaigned on.
Cant blame them for expressing doubts about Obama's over reliance on former Clinton administration people.
Thats hardly the change they are expecting.

12. The liberal base isn't the only reason Obama won. |
|
This is where people need to STFU, because if you try and please every group of support that put you in office, you get fucked every which way.
Latinos Catholics Gays Blacks Moderates Conservatives Liberals Whites
They all helped put Obama in office in some way or another. He can't please them all, or even most of them and people need to realize this.

rather than getting all caught up in media speculation. The guy had just won the election before people around here began venting and speculating and letting themselves get all out of joint.

18. The Ideological Purity Police (TM) has been busy. |
|
During the primaries they were busily squashing any support for Dem candidates other than President-elect Obama. During the general election they countenanced no criticism of the Democratic nominee.
Now that the nominee is the President-elect, they are no longer relevant, so they turn on their own party if any cabinet appointment, chief of staff, etc. is not at least 10 feet to the left of Dennis Kucinich. It's funny, really.
It's what DU does.
