Lieberman is just the beginning |
|
the left, real base of the party and without a doubt the most loyal, are about to be thrown under the bus now that the election is over. They don't need us anymore so we are going to be treated accordingly.
I understand, in order to avoid a possible repeat of 1994 in 2010, Obama has to govern closer to the center but there is no excuse for what happened today in the Senate. I'm really disillusioned, perhaps I shouldn't be.

We'll see. First indication is Lieberman talking like a Democrat on interview panels. That would be a first.

5. I think you've got that ass-backwards. Lieberman has been shown, |
|
beyond a shadow of a doubt, that nothing he does, however heinous, will draw any penalty down on him.

9. If you seriously think that Lieberman is capable of out-maneuvering Obama... |
|
...well, I just have to laugh. I think Lieberman has been told...'You get a chance to be a good boy. Play nice or you will regret it.'

10. LOL!!! He's just been told "you do that again, and you'll get it" for the umpteenth time. |
|
He's like a kid who's parents keep threatening consequences, but never follow through. One more time! Just one more! Yeah, right. :eyes:

6. Obama own's Joe's corruption and incompetence. Yes. It's now Obama's. |

Unfortunately I can't see how leaving a corrupt and incompetent toady in a position of power is good government. Ii seems the very definition of bad government.

7. I hope you are right, but it has the onerous aroma of the hope of |

2006 being dashed by an "Impeachment is off the table" statement in 2007.

I'm skeptical of people who claim they are the 'real', 'true', 'genuine' etc. etc.

but letting Lieberman off the hook is a direct slap in the face to the left wing blogosphere and it doesn't bode well for the future...that's just the way I see it

11. Why don't you wait until he takes office before drawing any conclusions. |
|
I think Obama will be able to accomplish a great deal - a progressive agenda - by persuading moderate Dems and even some Repukes to vote in ways they typically wouldn't.
Obama needs all Dems in his corner, and Lieberman was not worth the fight. I was initially peeved but understand the necessity.
Charging into office from the left isn't going to get us what we want.

16. I knew this in the very beginning. I will work my heart out for Obama, but I |
|
understood that he is no liberal. Many were duped into believing that he is. It is why he wasn't my choice and Kucinich was. I knew then that I would be totally disgusted with many of his decisions. My disappointment is coming quite early; I thought there would at least be a honeymoon period. :(

17. No, you shouldn't. This election was about reversing the damage of Dubya. |
|
It was to get a Dem into the WH. As it turns out, we got a particularly-good Dem going to the WH. But, despite the GOP line about "the most liberal member of the Senate," Obama is simply not of the left, nor should he be expected to be. Where he SHOULD be expected to be better than Bill Clinton and the DLC is on international trade, where the "free market" lunacy of Clinton's NAFTA has been largely discredited.
And any senator or prez of any Dem stripe has to worry about 60 senate votes to invoke cloture -- if the Dems cannot achieve that, the GOP will tie the Congress up in knots and prevent the enactment of even the most-moderate of programs, including recovery from the Dubya disaster and the financial meltdown.

20. As a leftist, I think it's damn past time that the left got a clue. |
|
If you REALLY want your agenda put into practice, you do it from the ground up. You don't expect the power structure in DC to do it for you.
The reason there's no viable "Left" in the U.S. is that far too many alleged "liberals" put all their faith into electoral politics, instead putting actual energy into grassroots organizing.
No real substative change is going to come from the top down -- anyone who thinks it will is a politically ignorant idiot.
"We" haven't been thrown under the bus. We were never relevant in the first place, because "we" haven't been willing to give up our comforts to throw our bodies upon the gears of the Machine.
