9. Attorney General. He has defended Chiquita International (human rights issues there)
and Merck (drug company). He was a partner in a corporate law firm. Not my first choice for change I can believe in. I don't see a problem with discussing this. I see a problem with people who insist we don't discuss this.

He was a partner in a corporate law firm that defends Chiquita International and Merck. I'd rather we didn't have an attorney gen who had these ties.

We should at least be allowed to discuss this.

28. I remember those days
:hi:

I think a lot of people here (understandably) would be more comfortable if Obama tacked a hard left right now. My own feeling is that while that would make me feel good it would probably be a disaster.

We as a nation are dealing with the wreckage of the past 8 years ... wreckage I am convinced at this point was damage deliberately inflicted so as to set up what Naomi Klein describes as "disaster capitalism". I do not think we have ever had in history a President who was so blatantly committed to ravaging the nation on behalf of the wealthy few.

Therefore we're in an unprecedented situation. These waters have bad tricky currents and unexpected rocks. Wisely, Obama is setting up a team that can discover or invent the path through and pull together the political coalition necessary to implement those plans.

I just wish he had made Lieberman wear a clown suit when attending the Senate or something ...

What Obama did with Lieberman is no different than what McSame did with Bush, sucking up to McSame after being ravaged by him.

And we were extremely critical of McSame for doing it with Bush.

When he hugs him and goes out and campaigns for him, then and only then will he be like Bush.

Obama is not a vindictive person and I for one would be very disappointed in him if he used his power to punish someone for not supporting him.

40. It's not about being vindictive...
...or punishing someone. Lieberman is a liability. I wouldn't be surprised though if Obama has something very special waiting for Joe somewhere in the near future. Until now he has shown himself to be an excellent power player. He can't be so blind to not recognize that Lieberman will turn on him at the next opportunity.

16. I have complete faith in Obama and I LOVE all his choices!
Obama made it very clear that he wants a different kind of Washington that works together and gets things done, not constant fighting. Nothing he ever said indicated that he was vindictive or that he would punish someone for not supporting him. He also never claimed to satisfy the Hillary haters by never including her or anyone ever connected with the Clinton administration. He's picking people who are experienced and qualified and considering that the last democratic president was Clinton, his people are some of the best people to choose from.

Some at DU are so self-absorbed that they think their own choices are better than Obama's.....LOL!!!

27. My take on all of this...
Edited on Tue Nov-18-08 06:37 PM by TwoSparkles
Our country is in jeopardy at every corner.

Besides the economy tanking and the failed, neocon wars---our country really isn't
a Democracy any more.

How can I say that when we just had an election in which Obama won? The only reason we won
is because this time we had Dem Secretaries of State and Governors who ensured
fairness. That won't always be the case. Machines flipped votes. Voters were purged
from the rolls. Are votes are not verifiable. Next time, we might not be so lucky.

Our elections are not legitimate. Habeas Corpus is gone. Our country tortures. Our
country operates its own prison that operates--nearly in secret. People can be detained in
this country for merely protesting the government. Currently, on our books--any one of us
can be declared an "enemy combatant"--stripping away our due process rights, our right to
an attorney--and we can be detained indefinitely. It's the law of the land.

This is not America anymore. We have lost her. Our government can spy on us--illegally.
Our Presidents can now enact any law or idea they want--just by making it so in a "signing
statement." Our government can read our mail and email, and it's likely--based on accounts
from whistle blowers at AT&T--that they're capturing and able to read every electronic
message we send.

Our Constitution is not followed. Our civil rights--specifically our right to privacy, are
in peril.

Government agencies have been gutted. They're supposed to protect our food supply, our children's toys,
our citizens who survive natural disasters, the air we drink, the water breath and the drugs we take when we're
sick. Agencies protecting these things are now staffed by people who work for corporations that
protect profits over our health.

I hired Obama to restore our democracy and reinstate the Constitution. I fully understand that
the only way to do this is to get Democrats and Republicans on board. I know I'm not going to
agree with every appointment, every policy, every decision. However, we are in dire straights.
We have to sacrifice some of our policy dreams to attract a super majority of politician and
US citizens.

It's the only path to restoring our democracy.

In my opinion, this isn't the time to further a partisan agenda that will piss off half of the
country. It's a time to build bridges, heal and come together--so we can begin to fix that
enormous mountain of problems that the last eight years has left us.

That's why I'm willing to defer some of my policy wishes. If we don't have a democracy or
the US Constitution guiding our government--we've damn well got absolutely nothing.

31. People have been waiting eight years to take back our country, and when we won, we expected a tool
But I think we're all expecting way too much OF WHAT WE WANT from President Obama.

We didn't elect a tool or a series of issues, we elected a man, and independent person with his own ideas about how the country should and WILL be run.

Sure I'd LOVE it if he'd take on all my pet projects: put solar panels up over all highways to power the nation, make Utah a Condor preserve, redistrict the entire country based on mathematical algorithms instead of party affiliation, appoint enviro-wackos to the Supreme Court, Create a GINORMOUS jobs program, buy every available scrap of land and make it a national park...

BUT, he's not going to do that. What he's going to do is what he thinks is right. He's going to appoint who he thinks will be the best for the job.

And I completely trust him.

Lead on President Obama :salute:

David

I think it will eventually be revealed that Loserman didn't get as much out of this vote as he hoped. I think Obama has a lot going on that he hasn't revealed. Like maybe the end of Homeland Security and thus the end of the Homeland Security Committee.

I voted for Obama because he is smarter than I am. He has never given me any reason to regret that vote.

I am going to refrain from commenting on Obama's decisions and/or cabinet picks because it's all just speculation and it hasn't come straight from the Donkey's (LOL!) mouth yet. Plus, he hasn't been sworn in yet and I don't want anyone to think I am "whining" about anything.

We will agree and disagree, but Obama will do what is right in the end.
